November is starting off cold as a strong wind blows through the area Sunday. When will it warm up? NBC10 First Alert Meteorologist Michelle Grossman has your full forecast.

High Winds Toss Shed, Cause Power Outages

Strong winds from the northwest are blowing through the Philadelphia area on Sunday bringing cold temperatures, causing damage and power outages.

The NBC10 First Alert Weather Team is tracking sustained winds around 25 mph around Philadelphia with gusts blowing as quickly as 44 mph. Those high winds are also forcing the temperatures to stay low in the mid-40s with wind chills in the 30s in some spots.

NBC10 has been tracking a number of strong wind reports and damage from viewers throughout the region.

Brandon Hayes found his shed blown out of his Media, Pennsylvania backyard on Sunday morning.

"The wind is no joke right now. That shed has lasted multiple hurricanes," he wrote on Instagram. Hayes tells NBC10 that no one was hurt.

At Philadelphia International Airport, there are arrival delays averaging 82 minutes, airport officials said.

PECO Energy told customers they were "working hard to restore service to customers effected by high winds." More than 24,000 customers were without service mid-day Sunday, according to PECO. The bulk of those outages -- some 15,000 -- were reported in Montgomery County.

These are just a few reports about the high winds. See others below and share your own with NBC10 by using the hashtag #NBC10WX when you post to your social networks.

Philadelphia Police honored a fellow officer who died in the line of duty seven years ago.

A candlelight vigil was held for Officer Chuck Cassidy starting 7 p.m. on 66th and Broad Streets in West Oak Lane.

It’s the same location where Cassidy walked in on a robbery at a Dunkin' Donuts back on Halloween Day in 2007. He was shot in the head and died from his injuries the next day. Cassidy was 54-years-old.

Lewis Jordan, also known as John Lewis, was convicted of first-degree murder for the shooting. He was sentenced to death by a Philadelphia jury and his execution warrant was signed by Governor Corbett in April 2014.

The Philadelphia Police Department, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 and members of the 35th Police District took part in Sunday night’s vigil.

A fire broke out in a Northampton County fire department building Sunday.

The four-alarm blaze began inside the Walnutport Fire Department’s social hall, once known as the Diamond Fire Company Building, on the 200 block of Washington Street in Walnutport around noon.

Firefighters from Northampton, Lehigh and Carbon counties were all called to the scene. Heavy winds caused the flames to spread and made it difficult for the responders to put out the blaze.

The fire was finally placed under control around 2:50 p.m. No one was injured.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

Eagles Beat Texans Despite Turnovers, Injuries

NOTE: DeMeco Ryans out for season with torn Achilles, according to NBC Sports.

Without Nick Foles, without two other starters, with his offense still bogged by turnovers and defense still dogged by big plays, Eagles coach Chip Kelly found salvation in an obvious place.

He put the ball in the hands of his running backs and watched the complexion of the game abruptly change.

LeSean McCoy and sparsely used Chris Polk combined for seven carries Sunday on a third-quarter drive that picked up 70 yards -– all on the ground. Polk capped the drive by bowling through the Texans' defense for an eight-yard touchdown, the swing play in the Eagles’ 31-21 win at NRG Stadium.

Polk’s first rushing touchdown of the season put the Eagles up 24-14 and built just enough of a lead against the Texans, who caught a break when DeMeco Ryans fumbled deep in Houston territory after he had picked off Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The Texans (4-5) turned the fresh set of downs into a touchdown from Fitzpatrick to DeAndre Hopkins as the Texans trimmed their deficit to three.

But Kelly went back to the ground game after Jeremy Maclin picked up 21 yards on a screen. Polk picked up two first downs, a 3rd-and-1 inside the Houston 30-yard line and 4th-and-1 inside the 5 to set up Sanchez’s three-yard touchdown to Maclin as the Eagles built the lead back to 10 and held on to win.

The Eagles (6-2) bounced back from their last-second loss to the Cardinals last Sunday, withstanding the departures of their quarterback, defensive leader and veteran right guard Todd Herremans to edge out a win on their second straight road trip.

Foles left near the end of the first quarter with a shoulder injury (see story). Herremans, already playing through a torn biceps left in the third with an elbow injury and Ryans was carted off the field of the team that originally drafted him after injuring his ankle on the interception (see story).

The win put the Eagles back into first place in the NFC East ahead of the fading Cowboys (6-3), who lost their second straight game, a 28-17 defeat to the Cardinals.

The Eagles had moved the ball easily through the air again in the first half and were headed for more than 500 total yards, but led just 17-14 at the break because of three more turnovers -– an interception apiece from Foles and Mark Sanchez and fumble by Josh Huff for the second time in two weeks.

But the game changed when Texans kicker Randy Bullock hooked a 39-yard field goal attempt with 4:07 left in the third, giving the Eagles possession at their 30.

Andrew Gardner replaced Herremans and Kelly then turned to McCoy and Polk to get the offense going again. McCoy peeled off runs of 14 and 26 yards to the Houston 30. Polk ripped off a 22-yard run before scampering eight yards for the touchdown that boosted the lead to 10.

QB report
Before leaving with a shoulder injury Foles had a typical Foles game –- an impressive long touchdown pass neutralized by another interception. He hit Maclin for a 57-yard touchdown pass early, but also threw his 10th pick, which was returned for a 51-yard touchdown by A.J. Bouyie.

Foles completed 10 of 13 passes for 124 yards. He posted a 99.5 passer rating. Sanchez, playing his first game since the 2012 season finale, completed 15 of 22 throws for 202 yards. He compiled an 89.6 passer rating.

Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick played OK, which is what you’d expect of a veteran journeyman with an average arm. He tossed two touchdowns, but was also picked off twice. He threw for 203 yards on 13 of 27 passing and compiled an 82.8 passer rating.

Offensive hero

With all due respect to Maclin, who had two touchdowns, the heroes were McCoy and Polk, who rescued a struggling, turnover-prone offense. McCoy rushed for 117 yards on 23 carries, his second-best rushing effort this season. Polk added 50 crucial yards on eight carries, including his eight-yard touchdown and a fourth-down conversion on the team’s last drive.

Offensive zero

Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson, a seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time All Pro, was held to two catches for 12 yards and was a non-factor against a weak Eagles secondary known for allowing big plays.

Defensive hero

Give credit to Eagles cornerbacks Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams. They held their own against a good Texans outside wideout tandem, coming up with several big third-down stops. The Texans completed just 5 of 13 third downs.

Defensive zero

The Texans' front seven put plenty of pressure on Foles and Sanchez but came up short in their home stadium against the Eagles’ running. They let McCoy and Sproles bail out a struggling Eagles offense and couldn’t come up with big stops in the fourth.

Injuries
Foles left near the end of the first quarter to have his shoulder examined and was later ruled out for the rest of the game. Herremans, playing with a torn biceps, came out in the third quarter with an elbow injury and was called questionable to return. He was replaced by Andrew Gardner. Ryans injured his ankle early in the fourth quarter after an interception and was carted off the field.

Did you know?
LeSean McCoy’s rushed for 117 yards and has 6,095 career yards, leapfrogging Brian Westbrook (5,995) into second place on the team’s career rushing list. McCoy is 443 yards behind franchise leader Wilbert Montgomery (6,538).

Up next

The Eagles (6-2) play their first home game in almost a month when they welcome the Carolina Panthers to the Linc next Monday. The Panthers (3-5-1) will have plenty of rest. They fell to the Saints, 28-10, on Thursday night, to remain winless in their last four games.

WATCH: Missing Woman Struggles During Abduction

0

UPDATE: Detectives are investigating new clues in the abduction of this woman. READ THE LATEST STORY HERE. The reward now stands at $15,000 and police plan to update their investigation at a 12:30 p.m. news conference Tuesday that can be viewed by clicking here.

Detectives are hoping newly released surveillance video showing a woman being abducted off of a Philadelphia street Sunday night and a $10,000 reward will lead them to her kidnapper.

The three-minute clip released Monday afternoon shows Carlesha Freeland-Gaither struggling to fight off a man who grabbed her from the corner of W. Coulter and Greene Streets around 9:40 p.m. Sunday. The nursing aide, who family members call a sweet child, was in the neighborhood visiting her godson.

"If anybody knows anything, please, just bring my daughter home," her father, Carl Freeland, begged. "I'll give it to you. Anything you want, I'll give it to you, just bring my daughter home."

The suspect, described by police as a 25 to 30-year-old man who is 5-foot-10-inches tall with a heavy build, pushes the 22-year-old woman down the 100 block of W. Coulter Street toward his car.

Freeland-Gaither tries to break free as the man works to open the rear driver's side door on a 2000 model dark gray metallic Ford Taurus with missing inspection stickers. They both tumble onto the sidewalk, but the woman is unable to get away.

She's thrown into the back of the car and the vehicle rocks back-and-forth for about 30 seconds before it pulls away. During that time, police said the woman broke out the both rear windows of the car trying to escape.

Another car can be seen driving up the street as the struggle takes place, but eventually backs out of the street.

A witness told NBC10 he walked past the woman shortly before hearing her scream. He then ran back to find her being forced into the sedan.

"I heard a whole bunch of screaming,” said witness John Wayne. "She was screaming, 'Help, Help!'"

Detectives identified Freeland-Gaither as the victim after finding her smartphone and glasses on the sidewalk. A knife and glove were also recovered, police said.

Freeland-Gaither's family members said the woman may know her attacker, but police feel otherwise. They've begun working with the FBI and are classifying the abduction as random.

"Whoever it was, they knew what they were doing," said Freeland-Gaither's mother, Keisha Gaither. "They waited for her."

On Monday night, Mayor Michael Nutter approved a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.

The family told NBC10 they felt desperate, but are not giving up hope.

"Just give me back my baby," Keisha Gaither screamed while in tears. "Please, just let her go!"

Officials are asking for anyone with information to call the Philadelphia Police tip line at 215.686.TIPS.
