Man Alleges Police Brutality, Files Lawsuit

Two Allentown Police are being accused of using execessive force during a traffic stop last May -- and the whole incident was caught on cell phone video.

A lawsuit against the Allentown Police Department was filed this week. It alleges that the officers pulled 33-year-old Christhian Ramirez of Bethlehem out of his vehicle during a stop for a traffic violation.

The officers then kneed him and punched him, according to the suit.

A witness in the area at the time of the stop caught the alleged brutality on his cell phone camera.

"I was like 'oh snap,' that's just not right," said witness Juan Bermudez. "He wasn't doing anything for him to be treated like that."

The video shows Ramirez on the ground, taking the punches that were being dished out without retaliation.

Ramirez was hospitalized following the stop, according to his lawyer.

"Once the individual is handcuffed, he no longer poses a threat to either himself or the police officer," said Attorney Steven Ameche.

Police confirm that an internal investigation into the claim is underway, but wouldn't elaborate.

Delaware Home Destroyed By Out of Control Minivan

A Delaware homeowner is mourning a loss and thanking her lucky stars after an out of control minivan destroyed her home -- plowing through the room where her two children usually sleep.

"Their bunk bed is in the front lawn [had they been home] they probably would have been in their rooms," said Rasheeda McIntosh, who has owned her home for 11 years.

McIntosh's children, 6 and 9, were at a friend's house this evening when police say a speeding minivan lost control hitting the home on Old Darley Road with an impact so powerful, it nearly collapsed.

The van spun twice before coming to a stop," according to police.

That's when the driver, 34-year-old Jason Roane of Claymont, got out of the car and walked away as if nothing happened," witness Erick Weber said.

"In a split second, as fast as you can cough, the house was destroyed," said Weber.

Roane was caught by state police a few blocks and taken to Christiana Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He has been charged with driving under the influence, police said.

The house on Old Darley Road is now condemed.

"Thank God that I wasn't home and thank God that my children were't home, that's the first thing that came to mind.

SEPTA Amps Up Security Following Alleged Terror Threat

SEPTA has increased security following an announcement made by Iraq's prime minister warning of an ISIS plot to attack subway systems in the United States. And although U.S. officials are disputing the credibility of the alleged threat, the transportation agency isn't taking any chances.

SEPTA Police have increased officer presence across their subway system following the possible threat brought to light early Thursday when Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said he was informed by officials in Baghdad that ISIS planned to attack U.S. and French subways.

"It seems like it would be an easy target because there are so many subways spread out over so many cities," said SEPTA commuter Steve Bright.

Local leaders say there's no evidence that the Philadelphia region would be a target.

Most riders seem to agree, but still welcome the extra security measures.

"I don't necessarily believe there's going to be a threat here, for instance," said commuter Casey Cartwright. "But obviously, there's always due diligence, so it would be nice to see something like that.

SEPTA Police Force employs roughly 265 officers, but are assisted by the Philadelphia Police when needed.

NJ Law Stops Seniors From Playing Beloved Bingo

A bingo ban in Rockaway Township has some New Jersey seniors on the warpath.

The bingo cards, and the bingo balls lie silent in Pleasant View Village, a Morris County Housing Authority seniors home. A long tradition of 10 cent a card bingo was shut down when officials found out they were violating state law.

"They're making us miserable," said bingo player Pauline Dademo. "We've been playing this for 14 years."

The law in New Jersey states you can't charge to play bingo without a $20 dollar license and application each time.

Most of the pots at the games played at Pleasant View Village were under $25, and to get that amount, outsiders who took advantage of a county hot lunch program served at the home were invited to play.

Recently, a disgruntled county employee who was told by a boss he could no longer play bingo while helping serve lunch blew the whistle, and the gaming came to an end after an official contacted the home informing them of the law.

"We're seniors, our bodies break down and we have no other social amusement," said Ethel Rosenthal.

For now, it will take an act of the legislature for bingo to return to Pleasant View.

"Gave us something to look forward to, dressed in morning and out of apartment," said Joan Barron, who had a message for lawmakers. "Have a little pity and a little thought, you'll all grow old yourself someday."

Drugs, Guns Stashed at Chester Playground

Authorities charged dozens of people after an investigation revealed members of a violent drug trafficking group stashed cocaine, crack, heroin and even guns on playgrounds, mailboxes and windowsills throughout Chester.

U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger announced the charges Friday, citing a 261-count superseding indictment that charged 22 of the 40 defendants with operating a drug market within the Rose and Upland neighborhoods in Chester.

"The people who live in the city of Chester, particularly in the area surrounding Rose and Upland Streets, deserve a break," Memeger said. "They deserve better. And we will keep going back there until we release the choke hold these drug organizations have on that community."

The group distributing drugs and guns are known as the Rose and Upland Drug Trafficking Group, according to investigators, who said  William Dorsey allegedly ran the operation.

Dorsey sold multiple kilograms of cocaine -- often in the form of crack -- to other members of the gang, according to investigators.

Gang members then hid those drugs in multiple stash locations, like playgrounds, mailboxes, windowsills, abandoned houses, alleys, trash cans and other spots throughout the Chester neighborhood, authorities said.

Police recovered 15 firearms during the investigation -- and some of those guns were hid in those same stash locations, they said.

Many of the gang members routinely carried the loaded weapons to protect their "territory," according to investigators.

Along with Dorsey, the sweep also led to the arrest of one of the gang's largest drug suppliers, Paris Church, authorities said.

A star Philadelphia high school football player is facing murder charges for his role in the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl, who was hit by a stray bullet outside of Albert Einstein Medical Center Monday.

Police arrested 15-year-old Quadir Gibson, of the 5900 block of Horrocks Street, for allegedly summoning the accused shooter to the hospital, where a group of teens were fighting.

Gibson directed the gunman, 19-year-old Darian Person, to shoot multiple people, according to investigators.

Person opened fire, killing 15-year-old Aisha Abdur-Rhaman, a Delaware Valley Charter School student, and wounding a 19-year-old man, according to officials.

The bullet traveled at least a half a block, striking Abdur-Rhaman as she walked home with a friend, police said.

Person, who faces murder charges, turned himself in to police Tuesday night.

Gibson is facing multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder and criminal conspiracy.

The teen was a running back at Father Judge High School in the Mayfair section of the city. Daily News high school sports reporter Ted Silary ranked Gibson as a top five college prospect.

Archdiocesan spokesman Ken Gavin said the school would cooperate with authorities and that the community is praying for Abdur-Rhaman.

The deadly shooting occurred after a conflict among Delaware Valley Charter School students and "people from their neighborhood" escalated into a fight, said Philadelphia Police Captain James Clark.

"It became a war over Twitter and Instagram," Clark said. "A lot of threats were made and ultimately they arranged to set up this fight at Broad and Olney, which led to the shooting."

Authorities continue to investigate.

Testing Underway After Preschooler Dies Suddenly

The death of a 4-year-old preschool student from Mercer County has officials running tests for a contagious respiratory disease that has sickened children across the country.

The boy attended Yardville Elementary School in Hamilton Township, N.J. He passed away suddenly earlier this week and health officials believe a respiratory illness is to blame.

But what exactly killed the boy is still unclear. It's unknown whether he had any underlying health conditions.

Hamilton Township Health Officer Jeffrey Plunkett said tests are being conducted at a state lab for various strains of flu.

Culture swabs have also been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia to determine whether the boy was infected with enterovirus D-68.

The virus has been sweeping across the country over the past two months infecting 277 people in 40 states and the District of Columbia, according to CDC stats. New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware are among those states.

Test results for the flu could come back as early as Friday night. The CDC results may not be released until early next week.

School employees on Friday sanitized classrooms and toys that the boy may have come in contact with. District officials say they have not received any other reports of children becoming ill.

Two children treated for respiratory problems at Delaware hospitals have tested positive for enterovirus D68, an illness that has seen an outbreak across the United States over the past two months.

State health officials said Friday afternoon that they got results from six samples sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention labs last week.

One child does not live in Delaware, officials said. They did not say which state the child lived in, but planned to let the state's health department know about the diagnosis.

Results are still pending on two other samples sent to the CDC.

Health officials are reminding parents to make sure their children are washing their hands regularly and disinfect frequently touched surfaces like toys and doorknobs.
