Light Rain, Snow, Sleet Could Glaze End of Your Weekend

Don't put the boots away: a wintry mess of light rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain could glaze over the end of your weekend.

The First Alert Weather team is tracking a weather system moving in from the west and set to arrive in our area by around 8 p.m. It will bring light snow to northern neighborhoods, a mixture of snow and rain to areas in and around Philadelphia and light rain to the south.

The best chance for a coating to 1 inch of snow then light sleet and freezing rain will be along north the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-195 corridor.

Farther to the north, areas along and north of I-78 may see 1 to 3 inches of snow before a changeover to sleet.

Areas south of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, including Philadelphia, will see a brief period of a snow and sleet mix, but that will quickly change to rain, leaving little to no accumulation.

Another storm Wednesday will bring a brief period of accumulating snow before changing to ice then rain. The NBC10 First Alert Weather Team will continue to watch this storm system as it will likely have greater impacts than Sunday evening’s storm.

Keep checking NBC10 on air and the NBC10 App (download it now) throughout the weekend for the up-to-date First Alert Weather forecast.

A 17-year-old rapper from Southwest Philly known as Tata Chapo was slain Friday night, and police are searching for whoever killed him.

The rapper, whose name was Tauhid Collins, was gunned down on the 5800 block of Angora Terrace. Neighbors heard the shots.

"My wife was relaxing on the couch downstairs, and we heard the shots,” said Curtis Shipman. "When I came out, there were friends and family screaming, 'Get the cops!'"

Police performed a "scoop and run," in which they put an injured person in the back of the police car to rush the victim to the hospital even before an ambulance can arrive. But doctors couldn't save Collins.

"To see him lifeless on the ground -- it shook me," said Tamika Shipman.

Collins' mother had graduated from nursing school the same day that her son was killed, a family friend said.

There have been no arrests in the case.

"He had a lot of love even when he was alive. I've seen it through my neighbors which are his family and friends," Tamika Shipman said.

Said Curtis Shipman, "That’s just senseless for a life to end over something stupid."

Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor has embarked on a so-called listening tour across the state to hear people’s thoughts on legalizing recreation marijuana. Opponents say legalizing recreation weed will negatively impact society. Proponents, though, argue that legalizing the drug will not only positively affect people of color who are disproportionately arrested for possession of pot, but will also generate millions in tax revenue.
