A woman was sitting inside her car and ran for safety as bullets struck her vehicle during a shootout in the parking lot of a Delaware County, Pennsylvania, mall.
The incident began inside the Springfield Mall on Baltimore Pike in Springfield around 1 p.m. Saturday. Two groups of men began arguing and the altercation spilled outside into the front parking lot, police said.
The groups then went to their vehicles and gunfire was exchanged. Investigators believe there were two gunmen in all who opened fire.
Four vehicles were struck by gunfire during the shootout. Three of the vehicles were empty but a woman was inside a fourth vehicle, police said. The woman crouched down, opened the driver’s door and ran toward the mall while her vehicle was struck twice by bullets. The woman was not hit however and no injuries were reported.
After the shooting, one suspect’s vehicle, a silver Nissan Altima, exited the mall onto Sproul Road, police said. Police also said the driver of one of the vehicles that was struck by gunfire, a silver Dodge Grand Caravan, is a person of interest in the incident.
No arrests have been made. Police continue to investigate.
The mall was evacuated following the shooting and all stores were closed. They later reopened Sunday.
The mall is a popular destination in Delaware County and is typically packed with shoppers during the weekends. Several people on Facebook commented about their experience Saturday afternoon.
"I was there. Never have been so scared in my whole life. Many thanks to the entire Delaware County police force for keeping us safe," Marissa Colmaire wrote on Facebook.
This is not the first shooting at the suburban mall. In 1985, Sylvia Seegrist opened fire, killing two men and a 2-year-old child. Seven others were also injured during the rampage.

Georgiana Rankin of Secane, Pennsylvania, was pulling into the mall parking lot on the day of that deadly shooting.

"I was a senior in high school and worked at Baker Shoes when the Sylvia Seegrist shooting happened," she said. "People were shot, people were down and there was a person laying out front here."

Seegrist is serving three life sentences for the shooting.

The stations began moving out of our Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, facility in late September. NBC10’s Jacqueline London and Jim Rosenfield delivered Sunday’s 6 p.m. newscast from inside our new studio.
“We are excited to finally pull back the curtains on our beautiful facility and reveal to our audiences what our vision for a multi-platform and bilingual news facility looks like,” Ric Harris, President and General Manager, NBC10 and Telemundo62 said. “From our open-space newsroom layout to news sets that feature cutting edge technology and distinctive Philadelphia-area designs, this facility allows our teams to use new technologies to innovate on their storytelling. We look forward to delivering the news and information our audiences expect from us while setting a new standard for our market and our industry.”
Spanning three floors, NBC10 and Telemundo62’s new modern news facility includes the following key features:

The center features wall-to-wall Wi-Fi access, sit-stand desks and flex-work spaces, coffee bars, quiet/focus rooms, huddle rooms and mothering rooms, among other features.
o Cutting Edge Newsroom Technology:  As the most modern local TV stations in the country, the new NBC10 and Telemundo62 facility uses an IP-based network, two news sets that feature 4K LED screens, automated cameras, three control rooms, eight edit rooms, a 1,500 square-foot room dedicated to shooting promotions in-house, extensive use of LED panel displays for immersive experience and Augmented Reality capabilities, among other newsroom technology that is being used for the first time by local TV stations in the U.S.
o Energy Efficiency: Designed to be the most energy efficient local news stations in the country, the facility uses heating/cooling and ventilating systems that improve indoor quality and reduce noise. Wall-to-floor windows capture natural light while automated window shades reduce heat from sunlight.  In addition, all displays and computers are Energy Star compliant. The stations are currently pending for the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Platinum certification, the highest energy efficient ratings within the Council’s rating system.
NBC10 and Telemundo62 worked with local businesses to design and build their modern news center. The companies include LF Driscoll (construction), Liberty Property Trust (construction project management/operations), Gensler (architects/design), and Diversified (technical design and integration).

An investigation is underway after a video surfaced on social media showing a man who appears to be a security guard punching another man in the face outside a night club in Allentown, Pennsylvania, over the weekend.
The video, which was posted on Facebook early Sunday morning and shared over 15,000 times, shows a security guard shoving a man and then punching him in the face, knocking him unconscious and to the ground. The video then goes out of focus however the guard is heard yelling at other people on the street and asking “who is next?” A woman also says “He hit him for no reason. He didn’t do nothing.”
The video does not show what led to the punch.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. Saturday outside the View Lounge on the 1100 block of Hamilton Street in Allentown.
Allentown Police say they responded to a report of a disturbance outside the club around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived they helped disperse a crowd but no one there reported a fight.  Police are currently investigating the video and working to identify and interview everyone involved.
A friend of the man who was punched told NBC10 he’s in bad shape and is being treated at Reading Hospital. Investigators hope to speak to the man once he recovers. The man is from Reading and works as a barber, according to his friend.
NBC10 reached out to the View Lounge for comment but have not yet heard back from them.

A car burst into flames on a busy Pennsylvania interstate during the Monday morning commute.

The car fire and crash around 5:20 a.m. closed Interstate 78 between Exit 29A – PA 61 South and Exit 30 – Interstate 78 in Hamburg, Berks County, for hours.

The driver lost control in the right lane of I-78 west then struck a bridge support on the north shoulder then went across the lanes and struck the concrete center median before bursting into flames, Pennsylvania State Police said. The driver was able to escape uninjured.

Expect traffic troubles in the area through the morning rush as both the westbound (between exits 35 and 29A) and eastbound lanes (between exits 23 and 30) remained closed as of 8:45 a.m.

Toilet Flushing System Burst Danger Prompts Massive Recall

$

More than a million Flushmate pressure-assisted toilet flushing systems have been recalled because they can burst powerfully enough to cause the toilet to shatter, causing injuries and property damage.

Nearly 1,500 incidents have been reported in the United States in connection with the Flushmate II 501-B pressure-assisted flushing system. At least 23 people have been hurt, one of whom needed foot surgery, and the incidents caused about $710,000 in damage, according to a recall notice posted Thursday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

When pressure causes the system to burst at or near a weld seam, it can lift the lid of the toilet tank or shatter it completely, the agency said. Another version of the Flushmate product, the Series 503 Flushmate III, was subject to three recalls since 2012.

The recall affects about 1.4 million units across the country along with nearly 17,500 in Canada. The units were sold widely for nearly two decades, including at Home Depot and Lowe's stores, and are identifiable by looking on the label for series number 501-B, a model number beginning in M and ending in F and a serial number that begins with date codes between 090396 and 120713, indicating the dates between Sept. 3, 1996, and Dec. 7, 2013.

Anyone with a recalled unit is advised to turn off its water and flush the toilet to release the pressure inside.

Flushmate will replace and install the recalled units for free. Contact the company at 844-621-7538 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET on weekdays or between 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. ET Saturday, or visit this page.
