A man is dead and three other people are hospitalized after at least one gunman opened fire on a West Philadelphia home Friday night as they drove by, police said.

The shooting happened around 9:20 p.m. along the 5100 block of Haverford Avenue.

Two men and two women were at the home along with three babies when bullets began flying. Several people were standing inside an enclosed porch when the shooting started.

Police said two men, both 35 years old, were hit. One man was struck once in the left arm while the other took two bullets to the chest. He later died at Penn Presbyterian Trauma Center, police said.

A 21-year-old woman was shot once in the right shin and 25-year-old woman was shot multiple times. She's listed in critical condition. The other two victims were listed in stable condition.

None of the babies were injured.

Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker said the bullets came from two separate guns. The man who died lost a brother to gun violence last year, he said.

The vehicle and gunmen drove away following the shooting. Police did not immediately have a description of the vehicle or shooters.

Who Invited Jason Kelce to the Wedding? Oh, That's the Groom

Abington couple Gary and Leah Pearce love the Eagles.

A lot.

So much, in fact, that Gary rocked a duplicate of Jason Kelce’s iconic Super Bowl Parade Mummers costume Sept. 22 ... on his wedding day in Maple Glen, Montgomery County.

The outfit was bright green, pink, and gold, complete with a puff-shouldered jacket, striped pants, and an oversized, sequin covered hat. Needless to say, it was a hit.

It wasn’t entirely unprecedented, either. With his build and big beard, Pearce said, he’ll often walk into restaurants and be mistaken for the player.

“I get it all the time,” Pearce said.

So right after the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade ended, he and Leah began searching for a suit like Kelce’s.

They found one online.

“It was – kind of a sketchy website,” Pearce said. “But I was like, ‘We have to try to make this happen.’”

But the costume did come as a surprise to everyone at their reception. “The looks on some of their faces when they saw me coming around the corner… they were like ‘Oh my God, he’s really doing it’.”

His wife, he added, loved it. He wore it during their first dance. And it was exactly what they envisioned for the wedding.

“A hundred and twenty-five dollars, but worth every penny.”

He changed back into his ceremony clothes for the mother-and-son dance and the (Eagles-themed) cake cutting, but the Kelce costume made a reappearance at the Maple Glen Tavern that night.

And post-wedding?

Pearce says he plans to keep the outfit.

“It’ll definitely come out again, here and there. Probably around Halloween.”

Trump to Speak In Philly At Electrical Contractor Convention

President Trump will come to Philadelphia Tuesday to speak to the National Electrical Contractors Association at their annual trade convention.

"President Trump will deliver remarks at the National Electrical Contractors Association Convention to an audience of 10,000 electrical contractors, electricians and apprentices from across the country," a White House official said.

The NECA convention began Sept. 28 and runs through Oct. 2 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. President Trump’s speech will highlight the final day of events, taking the stage in the afternoon. An exact time was not yet announced on Saturday.

"(The President) will highlight the Trump Administration’s commitment to workforce development and small business growth during his remarks," the White House official said.

NECA recently endorsed U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta in his challenge to incumbent Demcratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey. The former mayor of Hazleton, outside Wilkes-Barre, and current congressman for Pennsylvania's 11th district is a Trump acolyte.

Barletta's anti-immigration policies while mayor of Hazleton early last decade made headlines nationally well before Trump began his "Build the Wall" rhetoric for strengthening security at the border with Mexico during the 2016 presidential race.

Trump visited Pennsylvania in early August to campaign with Barletta at a large rally in Wilkes-Barre. Barletta trails Casey by a large margin, according to polls released in August and in September.

Following President Trump’s speech, the rest of the day includes a talk given by former Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos, and concludes at 11 p.m. with a performance by classic rock band Foreigner.

Members of NECA aren’t the only ones awaiting the arrival of the President, however.

Protest rallies have already been planned throughout the city to greet President Trump with opposition and comments toward the recent events regarding that of the Brett Kavanaugh trial.

"We must give him the fitting un-welcome that he deserves," according to a group identifying themselves as Refuse Fascism Philly. "Trump and his whole regime are illegitimate because they are FASCIST, and they must be removed from power immediately."

NJ Mom's Miscarriage Awareness Campaign Goes Global

Dana Dewedoff lost her second son, Benjamin, in June in a miscarriage.

To honor her son, she started an online campaign called Project Benjamin to bring together women also dealing with the loss of children.

Dewedoff was already active in women's health and wellness, having founded an organization called RISE — For Women two years ago. The goal of her group is to empower and unite struggling women.

"We're trying to let them know they should talk about loss," Dewedoff said. "They do count."

For Project Benjamin, she and others are using #TheyMatterToo. The recent movement has spurred interest all over social media. The RISE page on Facebook has more than 10,000 followers.

In 2016, Dewedoff was searching for a way to cope with her single-mother status and daily workplace demands.

"I needed a support system," Dewedoff said. "I wanted women to have different resources to go to for support."

After hearing Katy Perry’s "Rise," a top-20 hit at the time, the song’s lyrics inspired Dewedoff to rise above the struggles she faced, and provide the same support for those alike.

RISE first rose to prominence last year when the foundation campaigned with #StruggleDoesNotHaveALook. Women posted using the hashtag while holding signs bearing their children’s names — both living and lost — with reasons why their children were so important to them and how they felt at the time.

The goal of the organization around that time shifted to "overcoming struggle as a whole," Dewedoff said, particularly those dealing with the difficulty of a miscarriage.

RISE continues to campaign in raising support and awareness for current growing health issues.

"Raising awareness has become the main focus of RISE," she said. "Awareness on various health topics is the future of RISE."

Matt Damon Plays a Raging Kavanaugh, Kanye Performs on 'SNL'

Judge Brett Kavanaugh was the center of attention on "Saturday Night Live's" season 44 premiere, with Matt Damon playing a sniffling and shouting Supreme Court nominee defending himself against sexual assault allegations.

The show opened with a portrayal of Kavanaugh's fiery and emotional hearing, opting to skip an impression of Christine Blasey Ford's testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee. On Thursday, Ford said with "100 percent" certainty that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were teens. Kavanaugh defiantly said he is "100 percent certain" he didn't do it, and the FBI is now conducting a background investigation into Ford's claims before the full Senate votes on his confirmation.

"We've heard from the alleged victim, but now it's time to hear from the hero, Judge Brett Kavanaugh," said a stern Alex Moffat as committee chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley.

A raging Damon played up the outbursts that littered Kavanaugh's testimony by yelling into the microphone, audibly sniffling between shouts, aggressively flipping pages of his script and choking up at the mention of his high school friends and now famous summer calendars. He stayed hydrated too, chugging glasses of water and spilling them down his suit.

"I'm gonna start at an 11," Damon's Kavanaugh cried. "I'ma take it to about a 15 real quick!"

Damon made it clear to the committee, which included Cecily Strong as Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Kate McKinnon as Sen. Lindsey Graham, that he really liked beer.

"I'm usually an optimist. I'm a keg is half-full kind of guy," Damon said.

But he didn't appreciate when Sen. Amy Klobuchar, in a special appearance by "SNL" vet Rachel Dratch, asked if he ever blacked out.

"I don't know, did you? Huh? Huh? Huh?" Damon shot back. "Sorry, I didn't mean that. I think I blacked out for a second."

The real Kavanaugh apologized to the real Klobuchar too after asking if the senator, who said her father was an alcoholic, ever blacked out from drinking.

Aidy Bryant sat at "this weird little baby desk" to play Rachel Mitchell, the sex crimes prosecutor hired by the committee's Republican senators to question Ford and Kavanaugh. But Bryant didn't get much screen time after constantly being cut off by Moffat's Grassley.

"Ok, I cannot believe I flew here on Southwest for this," Bryant's Mitchell groaned.

The real Mitchell questioned Ford for all of the committee Republicans, but many of those senators chose to claim their time with Kavanaugh.

Don't forget Alyssa Milano. After the actress attended the real hearing and could be seen on camera staring at Kavanaugh from behind, she popped up behind Damon's Kavanaugh as well — if only in the form of a cardboard cutout.

And with the unwavering support from the committee Republicans, Damon's Kavanaugh made a grand pledge to Democrats in his closing remarks.

"If you think I'm angry now, you just wait till I get on that Supreme Court, cause then you're all gonna pay," Damon scoffed before shotgunning a can of water.

In "Weekend Update", Colin Jost and Michael Che kept Kavanaugh in the spotlight. With their typical lighthearted digs, Jost described Thursday's hearing as "a classic debate of she said, he yelled."

Che used his time to reflect on what he thought of as Kavanaugh's unbecoming qualities.

"I don't know if Mr. Kavanaugh has a history of assault or if he actually has a drinking problem," Che said. "But I do know that he might. And you shouldn't be on the Supreme Court if you might. You shouldn't be on the People's Court if you might."

Actor Adam Driver hosted and the night's musical guest was Kanye West, who has recently taken heat for his political views and support of President Donald Trump. He performed his new song, "I Love It," dressed as a bottle of Perrier with fellow rapper Lil' Pump as a bottle of water.

West also performed while wearing a red "Make America Great Again" hat.

Local ACME Gets Shopping Cart for Girl With Special Needs

A local ACME supermarket lent a huge helping hand to a young girl with special needs.

Tova Erlich, of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, told NBC10 her 5-year-old daughter Michal suffers from Dup15q, a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by the partial duplication of Chromosome 15, which leads to developmental delays, sensory issues and autism.

Erlich and her daughter often shop at the ACME on Old York Road in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, though it was tough for Michal to get around in the shopping carts due to her disorder.

“The regular carts were not comfortable,” Erlich said.

Erlich asked staff members at the ACME at the beginning of the summer if they could order a Caroline’s Cart, a shopping cart specifically made for people with special needs.

“The manager was so interested and said she would work on it,” Erlich said. “All summer when I went in she would update me on all the ladders they had to climb and people being out on vacation. Finally last week she stopped me and told me they received the cart.”

Michal used her cart for the first time Sunday.

“It has room for her and a 5 point harness,” Erlich said. “I feel so grateful that I have such a great local grocery store.”

A walk raising money for Dup15q awareness will be held on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. in Medford, New Jersey. For information on the event or to donate, click here.

Amtrak Refuses to Say How Many Del. Jobs Cut After Audit

0
0

Months after a government audit recommended Amtrak reduce its number of train mechanics in Delaware, the passenger rail company has confirmed the state's workforce was reduced.

But, The News Journal reports, it won't say how many jobs were cut or when.

Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods said the reduction happened after the government-owned company purchased new locomotives requiring less maintenance, but didn't provide further details.

According to the April inspector general report, Delaware had 470 workers. Woods says that number is now around 400, but wouldn't confirm if the difference was all a result of cuts.

Two of Amtrak's three heavy maintenance facilities are in Delaware. The report said the company could save $3 million a year by cutting ``excess'' staff.

Amtrak posted a net loss of $969 million in 2017.
