Checkers Manager Accused of Throwing Cooking Oil on Women
Police arrested a manager at a Philadelphia Checkers restaurant accused of throwing hot cooking oil on three women who were at the drive-thru.
Latifah Linder, 28, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and other related offenses.
The incident occurred Saturday at 3:07 a.m. at the Checkers on 5800 Baltimore Ave. Linder was working at the drive-thru when she began arguing with three women who were inside a Chevy Impala, police said. Linder then allegedly threw hot cooking oil on the women.
A 20-year-old woman was burned on her left arm and left leg. She was taken to Mercy Hospital in stable condition.
Another 20-year-old woman and a 26-year-old women both suffered burns to their left arms, legs and head. They both refused medical attention.
“The franchisee is taking this incident very seriously, and the manager involved is no longer with the company,” a spokesperson for Checkers told NBC10. “That behavior was completely unacceptable, and does not represent the values of the hundreds of Checkers employees who serve our Philadelphia guests every day.”

Hundreds of students in our area are running out of time to find a new place to live and go to class after the Art Institute of Philadelphia announced they were going to close. Additional information for students below:
"Students at the majority of impacted locations will transition to their chosen transfer option by December 28 when the majority of impacted locations will close. This date will vary for campuses with programs that lead to licensure. We continue to work with students to decide their next course of action on a case-by-case basis. Students may:
● Complete their studies at the campus, uninterrupted, if able to graduate on or before the end of the calendar year, and receive a 50 percent reduction in tuition.
● Students at Argosy University and South University may transition from their campus-based program to the same or a comparable program via online delivery (The option to attend online is not available to residents of the state of Oregon). For doing so, they will receive a 50 percent reduction in tuition for the remainder of their program of study.
● Transition to another campus within DCEH that offers the same or a similar program. For doing so, they will receive a 50 percent reduction in tuition for the remainder of their program of study.
● Transfer to a partner institution that is not part of DCEH. For doing so, they will receive a $5,000 tuition grant to support the completion of their studies (see here for more information).
● For students enrolled in licensure-leading programs we recognize that there may be additional options to ensure a path to degree. We will work with each student individually to determine the best course of action.
● For students who elect not to continue their education, the U.S. Department of Education provides the opportunity to apply for a closed school loan discharge. For further information on closed school loan discharge, visit here.

While it stopped raining at Citizens Bank Park around noon Monday, the tarp was not down on the infield at Citizens Bank Park at all times over the weekend.
The Phillies pulled out all the stops to try to prepare the infield, going as far as using a flamethrower-type device to heat and dry the dirt near the first base bag.

Police Arrest Youth B-Ball Coach Accused of Knocking Out Ref
Police arrested a Philadelphia youth basketball coach accused of punching a referee during a game last month.
Antjuan Hart, 26, was arrested on Sept. 5 and charged with aggravated assault, assault on a sports official, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Hart was a coach for the Warren Tanksley league, which consists of players between the ages of 12 and 14.
Hart’s team was playing in a semifinal playoff game on 48th Street and Woodland Avenue back on Aug. 9. After the referee made a call against his team, Hart became unruly, according to league commissioner Vontez Simpson.
Simpson told NBC10 he called the game in the final minutes due to Hart's behavior. Hart then walked over to the ref and punched him in the face, knocking him unconscious, Simpson said.
“To do that in front of young kids, that sends a bad message," Simpson said.
Police say the referee was unconscious for five to six minutes on the court.
Surveillance video captured the punch and aftermath. The referee was expected to be honored at the league’s championship game nearly three weeks after the incident but was still recovering from his injury at that time.
“He was suffering from seizures,” Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker said. “Has blood on the brain and a concussion.”

Pa. Sex Abuse Victims Want 2-Yr Window to Report Assaults
Survivors of sexual abuse are calling on Pennsylvania lawmakers to pass new legislation that will change the current statute of limitations and make it easier for victims to report abuse.
Speakers gathered in King of Prussia on Tuesday include athletes assaulted by former Olympic gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar and Catholics victimized by the so-called predator priests revealed in a recent grand jury report.
The report renewed calls for Pennsylvania lawmakers to follow Delaware’s example by enacting a two-year window so victims would have more time during which the civil statute of limitations would pose no defense to their claims of child sex abuse.
