Young Traveler Challenges TSA Officer to Dance-Off at NJ Airport

A routine TSA screening turned into a dance battle after a young boy showed off his moves as he passed through a checkpoint at Newark International Airport.

The boy and his family were heading through security at the airport's Terminal B when the young traveler started to dance, according to TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein.

After TSA officer Joshua McCall complimented the boy’s dance moves, the boy challenged McCall to a dance-off, Farbstein said.

Video captured by a bystander shows the boy toss his stuffed animal aside as he fully commits to the competition.

"The family was very appreciative of the TSA officer’s engagement and overall demeanor, and they requested that McCall take a group photo with the family, which, of course, he agreed to do," Farbstein said.

Tom Carter, TSA’s federal security director for New Jersey, said Tuesday the agency's officers would "be happy to accept any dance challenges from passengers,” as long as they’re not too busy.

“It’s a good example of the human side of our great and dedicated professionals on the front lines of homeland security,” he said.

“Officer McCall not only helped keep this family safe, but also made their checkpoint experience both pleasurable and memorable.”

New Jersey JCC Camp Counselor Accused of Child Sex Abuse

A counselor at a South Jersey Jewish Community Center camp is under investigation for alleged child sex abuse.

Officials with the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey sent a letter to parents Monday informing them of the allegations against a male assistant counselor at the JCC in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Officials told parents a child at the camp was injured about two weeks ago after an interaction with the counselor. The counselor was transferred to the kitchen but officials with a state agency determined the incident was accidental.

A week later, a parent accused the same counselor of inappropriately touching a child at the camp. The counselor was suspended. On Friday, more child sexual assault allegations surfaced against him.

“We have been consulting with the Prosecutor’s Office,” officials wrote in their letter to parents. “Its investigation continues, and we are working with them to not do anything that might hinder the investigation. This afternoon, we were given the green light to send this letter to you.”

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office told NBC10 they were aware of the allegations against the counselor but would not comment any further.

“I’ve been a member for years,” Lindsay Feuer of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, said. “My son went to camp here. I’ve always had a very positive experience here. I’m not here to demonize the JCC but I don’t feel like this was handled well.”

Feuer said the accused counselor watched her 3-year-old daughter.

“I don’t understand why I wasn’t called and told,” she said. “They’ve known about it for I don’t know how long.”

The suspended counselor’s identity has not been revealed. JCC officials say they remain vigilant and continue to work with investigators, “for the safety and security of our children which is always our priority.”

Three customers were shot and two officers were injured after a gunman opened fire inside a Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania, Walmart store and then crashed into a police vehicle while fleeing the scene, investigators said.

The ordeal began around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday inside the Walmart on 1000 South Easton Rd. Witnesses say a gunman fired shots near the customer service counter, striking two women and a man.

Both women suffered several gunshot wounds to the legs while the man was struck in the lower body.

All three victims were conscious while being taken to the hospital, police said. Investigators have not yet revealed their conditions.

The suspected gunman along with a female passenger then fled the Walmart in a Pontiac Grand Prix, police said. After tossing the gun out of the car, the suspects crashed into a 14th District police vehicle on Forrest Avenue and East Sedgwick Street, according to investigators.

Two officers were injured in the crash and were taken to the hospital.

Both suspects tried to flee the scene after the crash but were taken into custody by responding officers, police said. A witness told NBC10 the male suspect resisted arrest and it took several officers to apprehend him and place him inside a police vehicle.

While inside the vehicle, the man allegedly tried to kick out the window. He also managed to bring his cuffed hands in front of him and attack officers inside, according to police. Police then shot him with a stun gun.

Police say the man appeared to be either high on narcotics, intoxicated, or both. They also said the shooting appears to be random. Both he and the female suspect were also taken to the hospital.

A weapon was recovered on the 8300 block of Cheltenham Avenue. Police are working to determine if it belongs to the suspect.

Vandals Open Hatches, Flood WWII-Era Submarine in NJ, Police Say

A historical submarine in New Jersey that is part of a naval museum allegedly had memorial plaques stolen and was intentionally flooded after vandals opened up numerous hatches in what police call a "disgraceful incident."

Hackensack Police say they responded Tuesday to the USS Ling, after an unknown number of people entered the submarine, which forms part of the New Jersey Naval Museum, and “forcefully opened numerous hatches throughout the submarine, causing the interior of the submarine to flood with river wate."

This comes one day after police were also called after four bronze plaques were stolen from the USS Ling and naval museum. According to authorities the plaques were pried from a cement casing and were valued at more than $10,000.

Law enforcement says the plaques were a memorial to Naval Seaman lost during World War II.

Northjersey.com reports that Les Artschuler, vice president of the Submarine Memorial Association, which is responsible for maintaining the vessel, said that the locks were cut.

"Somebody had to know what they were doing to flood the submarine. We didn’t have enough rain to flood the boat – somebody opened the hatches," he told the publication, adding that the interior, which houses artifacts, was flooded but that the submarine did not sink.

The USS Ling is a nearly 2,500 ton, 312-foot long World War II-era vessel that is situated on the Hackensack River and is part of the New Jersey Naval Museum.

The cost to repair the damaged interior is currently unknown, police say.

The investigation is ongoing.
