The oldest Lynx in captivity died at the Lehigh Valley Zoo on Friday.

Lexy the Lynx was 19, the oldest living lynx on record within the American Association of Zoos and Aquariums' lynx population.

Lexy had lived at the zoo since she was just one.

In a press release, the Lehigh Valley Zoo said Lexy had been suffering from a progressive form of kidney failure since January.

“We will miss her dearly,” said Melissa Borland, President and CEO of the Lehigh Valley Zoo said. “Her empty enclosure, an everyday reminder of our loss, is tough for both zoo staff and guests.”

A memorial plaque will be placed at Lexy’s enclosure, according to the Zoo.

More than 140 firefighters are battling an aggressive fire early Sunday morning in an Old City building that houses apartments and retail stores.

The fire broke out around 3 a.m. on the sixth floor of 239 Chestnut St., across the street from the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, according to Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel.

It is now under control, fire officials told NBC10. The museum will remain closed Sunday.

"We're going to be here for hours," Thiel said, adding that at least 60 people have been evacuated.

The neighboring Best Western Plus Independence Park hotel was also evacuated. Some people took shelter in a SEPTA bus brought to the scene as a temporary shelter.

Several tourists woke up the sounds of alarms and the smell of smoke.

"These guys were taking a beating early in the morning," retired firefighter Bob Folen said of the Philadelphia Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.

With bronze medals already around their necks, brother-sister pair Maia and Alex Shibutani — known online as the ShibSibs — headlined a team of three world-ranked U.S. ice dance pairs during Sunday's competition in Pyeongchang.

In a nearby ice arena, Team USA's Women's Hockey team advanced to the gold medal game.

Here's five competitions to watch over the next 24 hours at the Winter Olympics:

Top Three U.S. Ice Dance Teams Advance

All three American teams are in position to contend for a medal in ice dance following the short dance portion of the competition Monday at Gangneung Ice Arena. The favorites entering the competition also asserted themselves, with Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir posting a world record-score for short dance.

[[474448643, C]]

The reigning United States champions, Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue, are in third place with a score of 77.75, two-hundredths of a point ahead of the brother-sister pair of Maia and Alex Shibutani. Madison Chock and Evan Bates are seventh, after receiving a season-high score of 75.45.

Virtue and Moir hope to regain their 2010 Olympic ice dance title when they skate in the free dance on Tuesday (Monday night in the United States), the second part of the ice dance competition.

Virtue and Moir, who helped Canada win a gold medal in Pyeongchang in the team event, were in first place after the short program, with 83.67. Their main rivals, France’s Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, were in second — despite Papadakis suffering a wardrobe malfunction during their routine, and struggling to keep her top from falling down throughout the routine.

Virtue and Moir were Team Canada’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony and have a chance to become the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history. A trip to the podium in Pyeongchang would net them their fifth medal between ice dance and the team figure skating event. The short dance will be followed by the free dance Tuesday (Monday night in the United States).

Defending Champion Bowman Qualifies for Finals in Women’s Ski Halfpipe

[[474392133, R]]

Team USA’s Maddie Bowman began her quest to repeat the golden Sochi run in the women’s freestyle skiing halfpipe by qualifying on Monday (Sunday night in the U.S.) for the final.

She came in seventh place, the lowest of the three U.S. athletes who advanced to the final. Brita Sigourney, who finished sixth in the halfpipe in Sochi, came third, followed by Annalisa Drew. And Devin Logan, who won silver in Sochi for slopestyle, didn’t make the cut to advance.

Canada’s Cassie Sharpe, a standout for her bold tricks, and France’s Marie Martinod, who took silver in Sochi, topped the field in qualifying. The freestyle skiing halfpipe gold will be won Tuesday (Monday night in the U.S.).

US Women’s Hockey Team Tops Finland, Advances to Gold Medal Rematch

[[474450553, L]]

The United States women’s hockey team advanced to the gold medal game for a third straight Olympics after beating Finland 5-0 in the semifinal Monday (Sunday night in the U.S.).

Gigi Marvin opened the scoring just 2:25 into the opening period. Dani Cameranesi extended the USA’s advantage with two goals and an assist. Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Hilary Knight had a goal apiece as they turned a 5-on-3 into two goals 34 seconds apart in the second.

Maddie Rooney made 14 saves for the shutout.

The Americans will play the winner of the other semifinal, Canada, which defeated the Olympic Athletes From Russia 5-0.

Canada will look to defend its title for the fifth consecutive time as they take on Team USA in the championship game Tuesday at 11:10 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

U.S. Men’s Bobsled Struggles as Canada, Germany Share Gold

Canada’s Justin Kripps and Germany’s Francesco Friedrich entered the Olympics as the top two ranked bobsled drivers in the world. After the 2-man event, the debate over who is better remains unsettled.

[[474393063, R]]

Kripps and Friedrich finished in a dead tie, both sleds completing the four heats in 3:16.86. Their teams will share the gold medal, while Latvia took the bronze.

The tie capped a thrilling bobsled event, where the top five teams entered the final heat separated by just .12 seconds. America, though, was nowhere near that top five.

U.S. Bobsled is still coping with the loss of Steve Holcomb, who died in May. Holcomb won the bronze in Sochi, becoming the first American to win a bobsled medal in 62 years. Without him, the Americans have struggled.

Justin Olsen and Evan Weinstock led the Americans with a 14th place finish, finishing more than a second and a half behind the Germans and Canadians. Nick Cunningham and New Jersey's Hakeem Abdul-Saboor finished 21st for the U.S., and Codie Bascue and Sam McGuffie finished 25th.

Three American Snowboarders Advance Through Qualifying Round in Women’s Big Air

Team USA members Jamie Anderson, Julia Marino and Jessika Jenson all survived the women’s big air qualification round Monday (Sunday night in the U.S.). Anderson rebounded with a strong second run and stumbling during her first attempt. Marino, 20, made her Pyeongchang debut during the women’s slopestyle, finishing 11th.

They’ll be strong medal contenders in the big air, but they’ll have to catch Austrian Anna Gasser, who’s known for pulling off tricky technical moves and who finished first in the qualifying round.

The women’s qualifying round was the debut of big air in the Olympics. It’s as much a spectacle as it is a sport — competitors perform complex moves down a hill after launching off large jumps, aiming for height, distance, style and a clean landing. The scores are out of 100 and the top scorers will go for gold Friday (Thursday night in the U.S.).

Fire Destroys NJ Town's Ambulance Fleet

Fire destroyed a South Jersey community’s ambulance fleet, leaving hundreds of thousands of not millions of dollars in damage.

The blaze broke out around 4 a.m. Monday at the American Legion Ambulance Association of Woodstown along Maple Court in Woodstown.

Witnesses claimed to hear explosions as the inferno quickly burned through the building.

A person inside felt the heat, woke up three others and they escaped, firefighters said.

The blaze destroyed six of the town’s ambulances leaving them with only one ambulance in Salem City. One of the destroyed ambulances had just been dropped off Sunday, Salem County Freeholder Melissa DeCastro told NBC10.

It will take some time to get an exact total of the damage but DeCastro says it should total hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in damage.

The ambulance company serves about 14,000 people and employs more than 40 EMTs.

No word at this point how ambulance services will be covered until the vehicles can be replaced.

The ambulance fleet had been updated over the past couple of years thanks to a $275,000 grant, reported NJ.com.

NJ Parents Angry About Months-Delayed Notification of School Threat

A New Jersey school district notified parents about a student's threat "to shoot up" the school -- a threat that was made several months ago.

Some parents said they were angry the Mahwah School District withheld the information for months. The principal later disputed that information about the threat had been withheld.

The threat was made in the fall against Ramapo Ridge Middle School, according to the email sent to parents on Friday night. The student said the violence would take place on Friday, Feb. 23.

Superintendent C. Lauren Schoen said the student has been removed from the school for the rest of the year. She said the student was later placed on long-term suspension due to other concerns, not the alleged threat.

Additional security measures would be put in place at the end of the school day on Feb. 22, she assured parents, including additional police officers who would be present the entire day.

Mitchell Greenblatt, whose daughter attends the middle school, said he didn't agree with the school district's decision to wait months to notify parents.

"What would happen from November to February 23rd if the kid did anything?" he asked?

Principal Daniel Vander Molen emailed families again Saturday saying that parents were notified by email on Oct. 28 about the threat. A copy of that email was attached. It didn't contain specifics including the Feb. 23 date or the threat "to shoot up the school."

The shooting last week in Parkland, Florida, that killed 17 people has heightened concerns about school safety.

Some New Jersey parents said they plan to keep their children home on Friday. Others said they planned to protest at the school on Wednesday.

Mahway school officials didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
