For the Super Bowl, Almost Any Bet Is Fair Game

For those not interested in the New England Patriots or the Philadelphia Eagles, there is another way to enjoy the Super Bowl: the prop bets.

We're not talking about simply who's going to win the game. The exhilarating thing about the Super Bowl is that -- if you're so inclined --  you can bet on almost anything.

For the statisticians among you, there are many game-related statistics to bet on -- everything from final score to rushing yards to touchdowns thrown to who will be named MVP.

Here's a look at some of the more intriguing prop bets you're likely to find for this year's game.

Length of the anthem: The over/under on the national anthem is usually around two minutes. This year Pink is doing the honors and safe to say she's already pumped for it.

A little research goes a long way before placing your money for this bet. It's easy enough to pull out your stopwatches and Google past anthem performances to get a gauge. It probably also helps if you're a Pink fan who has a good feel for her style and if she likes to linger on those high notes. You're also likely to find sub prop bets like: will Pink forget a word in the anthem.

Will any players kneel?

You would have been hard pressed to find this particular prop bet just two years ago, but it's a different time. It's worth noting no players knelt during the last Super Bowl soon after the issue came to national prominence, but that was also before President Donald Trump inflamed tensions with many NFL players. Speaking of Trump...

How many times will Trump's name be mentioned during the broadcast?

Trump hasn't picked a winner for the game, but given his friendship with Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady it's a safe bet you'll hear his name mentioned at least once during the game.

How often will injured Philadelphia QB Carson Wentz be shown on air?

Wentz was headed toward an MVP season before he was derailed late in the season by injury. The cameras are sure to capture his emotions as the team he helped get to the Super Bowl plays the biggest game of the year without him.

How many times will Gisele Bundchen be shown during the broadcast?

The supermodel, and Brady's wife, has gotten her fair share of TV time while rooting on her husband during his previous Super Bowl appearances. Odds say the trend will continue.

If the Patriots win, will Brady, coach Bill Belichick, or owner Robert Kraft be seen shaking NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's hand on TV?

Anyone familiar with the term "Deflategate" knows why this bet is of particular interest.

Will there be any R-rated scandals during the halftime show?

Following his last nipple-bearing appearance involving Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake has promised this time to be on his best behavior.

Will there be a surprise NSYNC reunion at the half-time show?

Beyonce got the girls back together for Super Bowl XLVII in 2013 when she was joined by Destiny's Child. Some are wondering if Timberlake is planning a similar surprise reunion.

Love for pork roll (or Taylor Ham, depending on where you live) runs deep in the Garden State. So deep, in fact, that one minor league team is changing its name in honor of the regional delicacy.

The Trenton Thunder announced that the team will change its name to the "Pork Roll" each Friday for the upcoming season. The change comes complete with new jerseys and a logo that both mimic the popular processed meat.

"Pork Roll is a New Jersey staple that can be served on everything from breakfast sandwiches to burgers and we're thrilled to celebrate it on a daily basis at ARM & HAMMER Park," said Jeff Hurley, the team's general manager and chief operating officer.

He added, "Re-branding ourselves as the Thunder Pork Roll on Friday nights is the perfect way to celebrate a Garden State favorite!"

On May 18, the first Friday the team -- the Yankees' double-a affiliate -- will wear the get-ups, the team will be giving out pork roll aprons and $1 pork roll sandwiches.

Seized Fentanyl Could've Killed All of NJ, NYC: Authorities

Two men snared in the largest fentanyl bust in New Jersey history were sentenced to prison this week.

Jesus Carrillo-Pineda, 31, and Daniel Vasquez, 28, were arrested last year as New Jersey State Police seized nearly 100 pounds of fentanyl, a potent opioid that’s 50 times greater than heroin.

Authorities said the amount of fentanyl seized could have killed 18 million people since doses as small as 2 to 3 milligrams can be fatal.

Carrillo-Pineda, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison on a charge of possession of heroin with intent to distribute and another seven years in prison on a charge of possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute.

Vasquez, of Arizona, was sentenced to six years in state prison on a charge of possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute.

“The 100 pounds of fentanyl trafficked into our state by these drug dealers could have generated enough lethal doses to kill the entire populations of New Jersey and New York City combined,” Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in a press release announcing the sentences.

Carrillo-Pineda and Vasquez were arrested late last June in North Bergen after New Jersey State Police busted the two transferring 40 kilograms of fentanyl in duffle bags from a tractor-trailer to a Mercedes Benz.

A third man was also arrested in the Bergen bust, but charges against him were dismissed this week.

Carrillo-Pineda and Vasquez were also charged in connection with another seizure the following day in Willingboro. Police seized five kilograms of fentanyl and 40 kilograms of heroin in that bust.

A fourth man, 38-year-old Omar Zeus Rodriguez, is still on the loose after the bust in Willingboro. Police say detectives found him loading the heroin and fentanyl into a Range Rover.

Store Clerk Allegedly Steals Customer's $1M Lottery Ticket

A New Jersey convenience store worker stole a customer's winning million-dollar lottery ticket and tried to pass it off as his own, authorities say.

The 36-year-old worker in Edison was presented the winning scratch-off ticket by the customer on Sept. 6, according to the Middlesex County prosecutor's office.

The worker, Rayhan Sorwar, was supposed to give the customer a claim form for her $1 million prize but he instead took the ticket and gave her two other tickets, telling her those were her winnings,

When Sorwar's wife tried to cash the stolen winning ticket at the Lottery Commission in Lawrenceville on Sept. 19, officials became suspicious and began investigating.

Sorwar was arrested Friday on a theft, conspiracy and money laundering charges. He was processed and released pending a court appearance in New Brunswick Superior Court on Feb. 15.

Attorney information for the man wasn't immediately clear.

The rightful owner of the lottery ticket has been paid her winnings, authorities say.
