The driver of a car died in an explosive crash early Friday when the vehicle crashed through the storefront of a pool supply store along Route 309 in Bucks County.

The car crossed three lanes of the road and into the front of Pool Pro in the 1600 block of North West End Boulevard, just south of Coopersburg about 1:30 a.m., emergency officials said.

Six people who lived in apartments above the business escaped before the flames spread. They wandered around as between 75 and 100 firefighters battled the blaze for a few hours.

The identity of the driver was not immediately known, nor was the cause of the crash in Richland Township.

The vehicle was destroyed in a fire that erupted after the crash, with more than 70 firefighters from Pennsylvania and New Jersey helping to extinguish the flames. Hazmat officials also chipped in as chemicals inside the store may have contributed to the initial intensity of the blaze.

The fire was under control by about 4:30, a fire official said.

A woman was shot in the hand while waiting for a ride at North Broad Street and Olney Avenue early Friday, apparently caught in the crossfire of two men's gunfire.

The 41-year-old victim walked into nearby Einstein Hospital after being shot one time in the right wrist, police said.

The woman said she had been waiting for a SEPTA bus before deciding to take a taxi, police said. However, before she entered the car, two people started shooting at each other.

The busy intersection led police to multiple witnesses and one who claims they saw the shooting.

Police, however, have no description of the shooter and no motive.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Northwest Detective Division at (215)686-3350.

Arsonist Keeps Setting Fires at Center City High-Rise

The sixth arson fire in the last month inside a Center City apartment building broke out about midnight Friday on the fifth-floor of the high-rise, and now federal agents along with the city fire marshal are investigating.

All of the fires at The Sterling, which encompasses the north side of John F. Kennedy Boulevard between 18th and 19th streets, have been started inside or near the trash rooms on the fifth, sixth or seventh floors, residents said.

A $10,000 reward is being offered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco and the building's management company. The Sterling is 30 floors tall.

The ATF believes the arsonist is a resident.

"We do not have any reason to think this is an arsonist from outside the building," ATF spokeswoman Charlene Hennessy said Friday.

WATCH: Check back to this page at 3 p.m. for livestream of a press conference with ATF officials.

The first occurred July 13 when someone lit a shirt on fire in the hallway of the seventh floor. Another small fire was also set that night on the eighth floor, the ATF said. Resident Perry O'Hearn, who lives on the seventh floor, said another resident put out the seventh-floor fire before police arrived, but smoke set off the fire alarm.

The second and third arsons took place the following week, on July 20 and 21. On July 20, two small fires were set in trash rooms on the fifth and seventh floors. A fire on the sixth floor was set the following night.

O'Hearn blamed lax security at all of the buildings entrances and exits and said he believes a lack of cameras in the fire escapes and stairwells are thwarting investigators' efforts to find the firebug.

Another resident, Mayank Patel, who lives on the fifth floor, said the building feels secure.

"Actually, they have security and two people patrolling now," Patel said. "I don't know where they were tonight."

No one has been injured in any of the fires, but eight apartments have been damaged by water from sprinklers, the ATF said.

"We are committed to finding the perpetrators for these acts of arson, and grateful for the high level of cooperation we are receiving from the residents and management team at The Sterling," ATF Special Agent in Charge Sam Rabadi said in a statement. "We asking The Sterling residents and the public to provide any information they have."

The ATF tipline is (800)ATF-Fire.

Agents are holding a press conference at 3 p.m. to give more details, Hennessy said.

'Operation Maple Empire' Nets 19 Indictments in Trenton

A multi-agency drug bust operation in Trenton culminated with a Grand Jury handing down indictments of nineteen people, New Jersey Attorney General Christopher Porrino announced Friday.

Dubbed "Operation Maple Empire," the large scale investigation targeted the alleged leader of the drug ring, 42-year-old Shawn Davis of Trenton.

“We allege that Davis was a major heroin supplier, as revealed by the 358 bricks of heroin – or nearly 18,000 doses – seized from his car as he returned from a weekly drug run to Newark,” said Attorney General Porrino. “The allegations make clear that Davis was fueling a staggering amount of addiction each week, and by shutting him down, the (New Jersey) State Police and their partners undoubtedly saved lives.”

The charges Davis faces for leading the organization could carry a life sentence.

The state said Davis traveled to Newark at least once a week to obtain the drugs he would then supply to several dealers under him who would then distribute to lower drug dealers and into the community.

Also facing first degree charges in the indictments are 24-year-old Tracy Edwards, 37-year-old Tamica Freemand and 48-year-old William Holzendorf - all of Trenton.

Officials said Freeman was in the car with Davis when the two were stopped and arrested on May 10. The two allegedly had 358 bricks of heroin and $8,000 in the car. A search of Davis' home turned up 600 grams of cocaine. and a handgun, the state said.

The state accused Edwards as serving as one of the primary distributors under Davis.

In all, the state-police led bust seized more than 500 "bricks" or 25,000 doses of heroin along with three handguns and 2/3 a kilogram of cocaine.

“Davis and the members of this alleged ring profited from the illicit drug trade that has infected our communities and torn families apart,” said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. “The indictments of these violent gang members represent another step towards preventing these highly addictive and potentially deadly opioids from reaching our neighborhoods.”
