Slain Philadelphia Police Sergeant Robert Wilson III was honored and remembered Saturday by Mural Arts Philadelphia with a Mural Dedication.

The two hour ceremony for Wilson took place at 12 p.m. at 6033 Baltimore Avenue in Philadelphia. The mural was designed by David McShane and the event funded by the City of Philadelphia as well as the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police.

Wilson, an eight-year veteran of the 22nd District, was shot down by robbers during a shooting in North Philadelphia in March of 2015.

The sergeant was at a GameStop on Lehigh Avenue and 22nd Street buying his son a birthday gift when two men entered and announced a robbery. When Wilson tried to stop them, the two men pulled out guns and opened fire, according to investigators. Wilson was shot several times as he protected customers and employees. He later died from his injuries.

Both suspects, identified by police as Carlton Hipps and his brother Ramone Williams, were arrested and charged with murder. Last month, more than two years after Wilson's death, Judge Kathryn Streeter Lewis ruled that prosecutors could seek capital punishment against the two.

In 2016, Wilson was posthumously awarded the National Medal of Valor by President Barack Obama.

"The men and women behind these badges are people just like everybody else," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said during Saturday's ceremony. "Just like you and me. Just like your mother, your father, your grandmother. They want the same things out of life. But they actually do something additional. They put their lives on the line each and every day for people they've never met."

A man shot two of his neighbors to death in the Frankford section of Lower Northeast Philadelphia and four people were wounded in a gun battle in southwest Center City as gunfire erupted throughout the city Sunday morning.

The Frankford double homicide was the fifth incident of the early hours and a 69-year-old resident of the 4700 block of James Street was being questioned by detectives for the fatal shooting of a man and a woman. None of those involved were immediately identified.

"The story is still being sorted out," one police official at the scene in the 4700 block said. The shooter was seen in the back of a police cruiser.

Overall, the carnage across Philadelphia left 10 people injured or killed, including the two on James Street and a man near 22nd and Fitzwater streets.

In addition to the dead man, three others were wounded in what police initially believe to be a running gun battle in the Graduate Hospital section of Center City.

The gunfire began shortly after midnight and responding officers found the four injured men stretched over two blocks of Fitzwater Street from 20th to 22nd streets.

All of the men were in their 20s, including the dead man who was 28.

The second shooting of the night happened about 1:30 a.m. in North Philadelphia at North 29th Street and Ridge Avenue during what police are investigating as a potential attempted robbery. The shot man was rushed to Temple University Hospital and was in critical condition.

The third shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. at a strip mall along Harbison Avenue near Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia. Police found a man shot multiple times in the back and chest.

Minutes later, the fourth shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. in Southwest Philadelphia. A 24-year-old man was found shot in the 5900 block of Kingsessing Avenue.

About the same time, homicide detectives were called to the the deadly neighbor confrontation on James Street.

And in the sixth shooting of the morning, a 24-year-old man was found about 4 a.m. in the Fairhill section with a leg wound. A black Chevrolet Monte Carlo was seen driving away from the shooting, according to police.

None of the people involved in any of the shootings were identified by police by 7:30 a.m.
