It's not the end of the road for Boyz II Men after all.

A Philadelphia street will be renamed in honor of the Grammy Award-winning group during a dedication ceremony on Saturday, June 24.

The best-selling R&B group of all time will have a namesake stretch of Broad Street between Christian and Carpenter Street. The new "Boyz II Men Boulevard" will be located outside their alma mater, Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Philadelphia Councilmen Kenyatta Johnson and Mark Squilla led the effort to rename the street located west of CAPA’s building.

Later that evening, the hometown boys will also perform at the Wells Fargo Center the day after the ceremony. The group is currently on the road with New Kids on the Block and Paula Abdul as part of the Total Package summer tour.

On Fourth of July, the trio will be honored as local history-makers during the Celebration of Freedom Ceremony at Independence Hall. They will also make an appearance during the Concert on the Parkway alongside R&B singer Mary J. Blige.

Saturday’s event is part of the Wawa Welcome America festival celebrating Philadelphia and the history of the United States.

A man, identified by a friend as a musician who often performs at Philly sporting events, is fighting for his life after he was shot in the head inside a home.

The 66-year-old man was found unconscious inside a home on the 2000 block of W. Spencer Street around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday suffering a gunshot wound to the back of the head. He was taken to the Einstein Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

While police have not yet revealed the victim's identity, the man’s neighbor and friend identified him as Rick Taylor, a jazz musician who often plays the drums outside Phillies and Eagles games.

"I'm shocked that this happened in this neighborhood," Taylor's friend Allen Mathis said. "This is a nice neighborhood. And I've been living around here all my life. It's just sad. Rick's been a friend all my life."

No arrests have been made. Police continue to investigate.

The Philadelphia Flyers honored a man with a mental disability who was attacked by teenagers in a caught on cam incident earlier this month.

Mark Smith, 39, was punched in the face by two teenagers in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. Video of the attack was shared on social media and went viral. The teen suspects were later arrested and charged.

After seeing Smith’s story, members of the Flyers decided to invite him to their Skate Zone and gave him a tour and gifts Wednesday, including his own personalized jersey.

Smith said he enjoyed the tour and plans to give one of his gifts to someone else.

“It was good to you know have him in here you know smiling, ear to ear and just you know give him his jersey,” Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostibehere said. “He really loves his jersey, and you know it just tells how nice of a kid he is. We gave him some other gifts and he already said he’s gonna give it to some little kid. So he’s a great kid and we’re happy to get him out here.”

Storms Topple Trees, Leave Thousands in the Dark

Thousands are without power and trees are down across the area after storms moved through the region Wednesday.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect for most of the region during the late afternoon through early evening.

Several trees toppled on roads throughout the area, including Falls Bridge and MLK Drive. A man was inside a car at that location when a tree came crashing down on his vehicle. The man was not seriously hurt however. Trees were also down on roads in the Logan section of the city, Northeast Philadelphia as well Montgomery County.

Downed wires from strong winds also caused major damage and a fire at Joe Trombetta's home on Algon Street in the Rhawnhurst section of Philadelphia.

"It almost sounded like a freight train coming through or the house exploded," Trombetta said. "I jumped out of bed, made sure my wife was okay. She says the whole roof is off the house."

The wind ripped the wires down and sparks tore a hole through pavement.

"The fire was shooting up about 20 to 30 feet in the air," Trombetta said. "It was just a horrible experience."

The storms also caused thousands of power outages and is even impacting SEPTA service. SkyForce10 was above a train that stopped between the Bryn Mawr and Haverford stations due to signaling issues caused by a tree falling on wires. Passengers were forced to walk along the tracks to get to the Bryn Mawr Station.

SEPTA officials say trains on the Paoli/Thorndale line are operating on a 60 minutes or more delay due to other downed trees causing signal and power issues.

Here are the current outage numbers as of 9:30 p.m.

A teen boy went missing while swimming with three other boys in a marsh in Hamilton Township, Mercer County.

Officials say the 17-year-old boy went swimming with three other teens in the Hamilton-Trenton Marsh near Westcott Avenue around 4:50 p.m. Wednesday when they were pulled by a strong current. The three other teens were able to swim to safety but the 17-year-old boy went underwater and has not been seen since.

"The current was so heavy that it took him," one of the teens said. "I reached out to try to grab him. We were like this and since the current was so strong it took him away from my hand. He went down and going under, coming up gasping for air, going back down, coming up gasping for air. Then when he went around the corner I lost the sight of him."

Responding firefighters and other officials immediately searched for the teen in the water. Four hours later, the search ended for the day. They will resume the search Thursday morning.

The missing teen is described as a black male standing 5-foot-10 and weighing approximately 125 pounds. He was last seen wearing gray and black boxer briefs.

K9 Attacks Teen Bystander While Chasing Suspect

A teen boy is recovering after he was attacked by a police K9 who was searching for a suspect in Delaware.

State Troopers were called to the BP Gas Station on 1923 Pulaski Highway in Bear, Delaware shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a man carrying a gun. When they arrived they found a man matching the suspect’s description riding a bike on Pulaski Highway.

A state trooper warned the man to stop but he continued riding away on his bike, investigators said. The trooper's K9 then ran after the suspect. Police say the man kicked the police dog in the head and chest and also pulled out a gun in an attempted to shoot the animal. He didn't open fire however and continued to flee as the K9 chased after him, police said.

As the pursuit continued, the K9 suddenly attacked a 15-year-old boy who was on Strathaven Court at the time. Kaylynne Waters told NBC10 she watched as the K9 grabbed the boy by his shirt.

“The dog jumped on him once,” Waters said. “And he was like, ‘Get down!’ Then the dog started to bite on him.”

Waters told NBC10 her friend thought the K9, a German Shepherd, belonged to a neighbor because it wasn’t wearing a police vest.

The trooper was able to gain control of the K9. The teen was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

“This is unfortunate and we are extremely concerned for the teenager and his family,” a Delaware State Police spokesperson wrote.

Matthew Fogg, the teen’s attorney, told NBC10 his client continues to recover both physically and emotionally.

“He’s not really interested in going outside right now,” Fogg said. “That’s something he’s going to have to deal with. This was absolutely a terrifying experience.”

The suspect the K9 was initially chasing after is described as a thin black male standing between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-9 wearing a black t-shirt and blue jean shorts. He was armed with an unknown make and model handgun.

A woman is fighting for her life after she was struck by two hit-and-run vehicles in Burlington Township, New Jersey Sunday night.

Kim Henry, 53, of Burlington, New Jersey was walking across the southbound lanes of Route 130 around 9:15 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle passing by. Police say she was then struck by a second vehicle and was dragged along the roadway. Both drivers of the striking vehicles fled the scene.

“Broken ain’t the word,” Todd Smith, Henry’s boyfriend, told NBC10. “That’s my other half. We’re one. That’s my wife, my baby, my best friend. Not just my girlfriend. All of the above.”

Henry suffered head trauma, facial injuries, broken ankles, and several deep abrasions. She was taken to the Cooper University Trauma Center in Camden where she is in critical but stable condition. Doctors performed two surgeries on Henry Tuesday. She will also need skin grafting due to being dragged.

“Her whole face and her jaw is broken up,” Smith said. “She has scars in the back of her head scraped on the ground where they dragged her."

Surveillance video was released of one of the suspected hit-and-run vehicles. The video shows a 1997 Mazda Protege pull into a parking lot. The driver then turns off the headlights and switches places with the passenger.

“We’re just out here trying to collect any evidence that we can,” Burlington Township Police Detective Anthony Fontana said. “Anything that we might not have seen that night.”

Smith told NBC10 Henry is legally blind but can see well enough to cross the street. There is no sidewalk in front of their homes.

“That’s my life,” Smith said. “When you see her you see me. We’re both disabled so when we move around we’re together.”

Smith was in tears as he shared his message for Henry.

“Kim I love you so much,” he said. “I miss you and I need you. Come back. You need to come back. That’s it.”

If you have any information on the incident, please call Detective Fontana at 609-239-5889 or Traffic Safety Unit P/O Eric Pew at 609-386-2019.

    AROUND THE WORLD

Trump Calls for Stricter Limits on Welfare for Immigrants: President Donald Trump said Wednesday he'll pursue legislation that would bar immigrants from being eligible for welfare for at least five years — though most already are. Trump said at a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, that "the time has come" for "new immigration rules" that would require those seeking admission to the country to be able to support themselves financially and would bar the use of welfare for a period of at least five years. He said his administration would be "putting in legislation to that effect very shortly.” It is unclear, however, how Trump's proposal would change the current situation. U.S. immigration law already bars most foreigners who enter the country on immigrant visas from being eligible for federal benefits like Social Security and food stamps for the first five years.

A pickup truck and dump truck collided on a busy South Jersey roadway Thursday morning, killing one of the drivers.

New Jersey State Police said one of the the vehicles was driving the wrong way on Route 55 northbound in Franklin Township, Gloucester County, when it crashed into another truck.

Police didn't say which truck was at fault, but noted that the driver traveled between exits 35 and 39B in the wrong direction.

It was not immediately clear which driver was killed.

The force of the crash damaged the front of the pickup truck and ignited a fire. It also caused the dump truck to overturn, spilling its load of sand or dirt on to the roadway.

The roadway remained closed for several hours as police investigated and worked to clean up the crash and a fuel spill. Cars were forced to detour off Route 55 at Exit 35. By 9 a.m., some vehicles could get by on the shoulder of the roadway.

A brand of pine nut hummus sold at major retailers including Wal-Mart and Target has been recalled by its manufacturer because it may be contaminated with listeria.

House of Thaller, which is based in Knoxville, Tennessee, voluntarily recalled all 10-ounce packages of hummus products containing pine nut topping, after a supplier reported the possible contamination.

Thaller sells its hummus under the brand names Marketside, Lantana, and Fresh Foods Market across the country, including at large nationwide retailers.

Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria that may have contaminated the hummus, can cause serious infections in young children, the elderly, and anyone with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, nausea and diarrhea.

No illnesses have been reported in relation to the product, which was distributed from April 18 to June 13, according to the FDA.

Anyone with questions about the recall can call the House of Thaller customer service center on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST at 855-215-5142. Or click here for more information.

A man hiding in the women’s bathroom at Oxford Valley Mall allegedly snapped footage of an unsuspecting 13-year-old girl, Bucks County police said.

The victim screamed when she saw a hand emerge from the bottom of the stall, according to police. The suspect fled the bathroom and disappeared into the food court.

A female witness encountered the suspect as she approached the women’s bathroom, but told police nothing seemed out of the ordinary until she saw the victim come out of the bathroom moments later.

The victim was visibly shaken and looking for her mother, who was ordering food from a vendor at the food court, police said.

The suspect is described as a thin, black male in his 20s wearing all black clothing. Police said he has short hair and appeared to be walking with a limp, his hand resting on his left hip.

Police do not have surveillance footage of the suspect, but they are sharing information with neighboring departments in hopes of finding a pattern or similar victim accounts, Lt. Steve Forman said.

“We probably take less than a handful of these calls every year,” he said. “We don’t get too many, and many incidents probably go undetected. This isn’t a problem at the mall per say.”
