Woman Pulled Into Alley, Sexually Assaulted: Police

A woman told police she was sexually assaulted by two teens in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia.

The 45-year-old woman said she was walking to a 7-Eleven on Frankford Avenue and Decatur Street on April 30 at 10 p.m. when she passed a group of teen boys who made comments toward her. The woman told investigators two of the teens then pulled her into a driveway on the 4000 block of Decatur Street. One of the teens then sexually assaulted her before fleeing with the other suspect, according to police.

Police initially released surveillance video of a man and a juvenile who they said were both suspects in the sexual assault. Tyron Stevens, who told NBC10 he was one of the men in the video, came forward and proclaimed his innocence. Police said Stevens went into the Special Victims Unit, gave a statement and submitted his DNA.

"I told them that it wasn't me and you've got the wrong person," Stevens said. "I went straight over there and got my name cleared. So for anybody seeing that tape, it's not me."

Police pulled the surveillance video from their website and continue to search for suspects.

Driver Flips Car in High-Speed Turnpike Chase: Police

Police arrested a man after a high-speed police chase came to a crashing end on the NJ Turnpike Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

It’s still unclear what sparked the pursuit around 1:30 p.m. in Cranbury Township; police said a trooper tried to pull the man’s Toyota sedan over for a moving violation. The man took off and the trooper gave chase, police said.

Police ended up chasing the Toyota about 30 miles south before the man crashed and overturned at the Mount Holly exit in Mount Holly.

At one point during the pursuit, the driver tried to bolt from an inner lane to an outer lane and hit a guardrail at a high rate of speed, police said.

Then, as he was trying to exit at Mount Holly, he took the curve too fast, crashed and rolled over, police said. Chopper 4 video shows the smashed Toyota and scattered debris.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Capitol Health Medical Center in Trenton with what are believed to be serious injuries.

No troopers were injured and no other vehicles were involved, police said.

State police closed the exit, leading to a miles-long traffic jam in the southbound lanes Tuesday afternoon.

Here are the 10 things you need to know to start your day from your friends at NBC10.

TODAY'S TOP STORY

Trump Abruptly Axes FBI's-Comey in Midst of Russia Probe: President Donald Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey Tuesday, dramatically ousting the nation's top law enforcement official in the midst of an FBI investigation into whether Trump's campaign had ties to Russia's meddling in the election that sent him to the White House. In a letter to Comey, Trump said the firing was necessary to restore "public trust and confidence" in the FBI. Comey has come under intense scrutiny in recent months for his public comments on an investigation into Democrat Hillary Clinton's email practices, including a pair of letters he sent to Congress on the matter in the closing days of last year's campaign. Trump made no mention of Comey's role in the Clinton investigation, which she has blamed in part for the election result. But in announcing the firing, the White House circulated a scathing memo, written by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, criticizing Comey's handling of the Clinton probe, including the director's decision to hold a news conference announcing its findings and releasing "derogatory information" about Clinton. This is only the second firing of an FBI director in history. President Bill Clinton dismissed William Sessions amid allegations of ethical lapses in 1993.

    WHAT YOU MISSED YESTERDAY

Philly DA Accused of Misusing PAC Funds, Gov't Vehicles: Philadelphia's top prosecutor was indicted Tuesday on additional fraud charges after he was accused of using political action committee (PAC) funds and official government vehicles for his own personal benefit. Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams, 50, is now charged with using campaign funds to support a lifestyle that included expensive dinners, facials and massages and health club costs. The new indictment Tuesday also says he regularly used city vehicles for his family's personal use. Williams was initially charged in a 23-count indictment in March for bribery. His superseding indictment now contains 29 counts.

    AROUND THE WORLD

Democrats Question Probe of Trump-Russia Ties: Democratic members of Congress sounded off on Tuesday after President Donald Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey for what the White House suggested was due to his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails. Because the FBI was also investigating possible ties between President Donald Trump and Russia, the Democrats questioned the state of the probe and made impassioned calls to have a special prosecutor on the case. "This investigation must be run as far away as possible" from the president, said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, who called on the deputy attorney general to appoint a special prosecutor. Schumer, according to NBC News, even called on all Senate Democrats to "be on the floor in their seats" at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to hear how, if at all, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will address Comey's firing. A special caucus meeting will then take place at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the next steps.

The top internships in the tech industry these days aren't the monotonous office drone work, CNBC reports. They offer challenging projects that pay thousands of dollars a month.

The highest paying summer internship in tech this year is at Facebook, which pays $8,000 monthly, according to jobs website Glassdoor, which compiled data based in part on anonymously submitted feedback.

"Facebook moves fast. Really, really fast. The pace definitely took some getting used to, but I think it's coupled with (an) implicit trust," a software engineer intern wrote. "There is so much to learn."

Rounding out the top five highest-paying internships are Microsoft, Salesforce, Amazon and Apple — which offers perks like food and housing, one intern noted.

NJ TSA Officer Returns $600 to Passenger Just in Time

While TSA agents in Atlantic City were keeping passengers safe, one agent made sure to protect a passenger’s cash.

Towards the last flights of the day last week at Atlantic City International Airport, TSA agent Ralph Modugno spotted an unusual accessory on the floor- a wad of cash totaling $600.

Three passengers were rushing to the security checkpoint to make it to their flight. Modugno says that after they were screened and off to their gate, he noticed the cash laying on the floor.

Knowing that time was running out before takeoff, Modugno quickly alerted his supervisor, and the two used the intercom system to call the passengers back to the gate.

After asking a few questions to ensure they were the rightful owners, Modugno reunited them with the money.

Modugno has been with the Atlantic City International TSA for seven years now, but says the cash would have been returned regardless of who was working.

“I was at the right place, at the right time," he said. "Anyone here would’ve done the same. We have a good team."

An investigation is underway after a teen girl was reportedly sexually assaulted at Frankford High School.

Police say they received a report of a female student being sexually assaulted at the school Wednesday though they have few details at the moment on the incident. A tipster claimed the assault occurred in the boy’s bathroom but police have not confirmed this.

Police say two people were taken into custody in connection to the incident but no charges have been filed. They continue to investigate.

Frankford High School is located on the 5000 block of Oxford Avenue. School officials plan to send messages to parents Wednesday night.

Chester County Dog Kennels Named Among Worst in the Country

Two Chester County dog kennels have named among the worst puppy mills in the country.

Two Honey Brook kennels — Hill Top Farm Kennel and Sunny Slope Kennels — both appeared on the Humane Society’s ‘Horrible Hundred’ list for violations and poor conditions. Parkesburg's Garden Spot Puppy Haven was also on the list.

The report listed a dozen Pennsylvania dog-breeding facilities among the worst in the United States. The kennels were chosen based upon past violations and living conditions for the animals.

The report found problems at the Pennsylvania kennels that include: underweight dogs, animals with open wounds, and others with feces in their fur and food bowls. Other facilities were found to be selling underage puppies and/or not providing proper vaccinations.

Seven more on the "Horrible Hundred" list are located in Lancaster County:

      - Evergreen Kennel (East Earl)

      - Turkey Hill Kennel (East Earl)

      - Whispering Spring Kennel (East Earl)

      - Fill-in-the-Gap Pets (Gap)

      - Jonathan Lapp (Ephrata)

      - Runway Kennel (Gordonville)

      - Walnut Run (Strasburg)

To compile the list, the Human Society used of state inspection records of kennels. They also utilized USDA court records, consumer complaints, and media reports before those reports were removed from the USDA website in February.
