A Pennsylvania defense contractor says two brothers who formerly owned the company, and their former chief financial officer, are to blame for an alleged $6 million scheme to overcharge the Defense Department for Humvee window kits.

Ibis Tec LLC, of Butler, issued a statement Sunday night saying the business was sold last month to a group of independent investors.

The investors' statement says former co-owners Thomas Buckner of Gibsonia, and John Buckner, of Lyndora, were removed as directors of the company in January, along with former CFO Harry Kramer.

Attorneys for those men haven't commented to The Associated Press.

They were charged Friday by federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh with defrauding the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, also known as TACOM, which is based in Warren, Michigan. [[238427591, C]]

A beloved Center City Philadelphia diner serving up late-night eats for decades will soon serve its final omelet.

Little Pete’s along S 17th Street at Chancellor Street will close its doors for good on Memorial Day, an employee who asked not to be named confirmed to NBC10. The doors will shut for good at 11:59 p.m. on May 29.

The diner stands as a restaurant relic amid Center City’s many foodie-geared eateries, serving up traditional diner fare 24 hours a day over nearly 40 years. The diner is one of the last of its kind in Center City with closures of Midtown II and other diners in past years.

The diner will be torn down to make way for a new hotel, said zoning notices.

Diner owner Pete Koutroubas told Philly.com’s Michael Klein that he hopes to hold a block party to mark the end of Little Pete’s.

In the meantime, people who have had a late-night, early-morning or midday bite are can head over the Little Pete’s for one last visit.

A pickup driver drove off after striking and killing a 24-year-old Montgomery County man on his way to work Friday night, police said.

Donald Purnell died at the scene near the intersection of Pennsylvania Route 100 south and Shoemaker Road in Pottstown. Police said the pickup truck driver fled the scene before officers arrived around 8 p.m. The truck, described as dark-colored, likely has front-end damage.

The truck was last seen heading south on Route 100 toward King Street.

Purnell was on his way to start an 8 p.m. shift at the nearby Wendy's when the pickup driver struck him and pushed him into the path of a second driver who stopped at the scene. The second driver didn't see Purnell on the roadway, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said.

Purnell was headed to work at the adjacent Wendy's when he was struck, investigators said.

Anyone who witnessed Mr. Purnell being struck, was present immediately afterward or has information as to the vehicle and/or driver which first struck Mr. Purnell are asked to phone the Pottstown Borough Police Department at 610-970-6570.

A missing Uber driver was found dead inside an Atlantic County motel Sunday.

Gdovin’s body was then found Sunday afternoon about 60 miles away inside the Rodeway Inn on White Horse Pike in Galloway Township. Police were called to the motel and had to force their way inside Gdovin’s room after he failed to check out.

“The door was locked inside,” Ram Patel, a motel employee, told NBC10. “He had barricaded the table and chain. He locked the door with the chain. I couldn’t open the door.”

Gdovin’s Hyundai Elantra was parked in the motel’s parking lot at the time of his death.

Police say Gdovin’s death is suspicious. They are currently looking at surveillance video as the investigation continues.

Message in a Bottle Finder Searches for Philadelphia Man

A Utah native is seeking out a Philadelphia man after finding his message in a bottle.

Clint Buffington, 32, of Salt Lake City, Utah, told NBC10 he was visiting an uninhabited island in the British West Indies back in May, 2015 when he found a Gatorade bottle with a note written on a Carnival Cruise Line paper inside. The cap on the bottle had deteriorated and the ink on the letter had faded yet Buffington was still able to decipher part of the message. After close analysis, Buffington came up with the following:

"Hi, my name is Ray. Just wanted to say hi. If you find this bottle, I put it in the water 5-16-14. I live in Philadelphia. Let me know what day you found this. Give me a call. I was on a cruise."

Unfortunately for Buffington, the one piece of writing he couldn’t quite make out was the most important: Ray’s phone number. Buffington believes the first eight numbers are 267-271-46, but he’s unsure of the final two.

Buffington, who has made a hobby out of finding messages in bottles and tracking down the people who sent them, shared his discovery on his blog and Facebook page last June. Yet despite getting massive feedback and over 1200 shares from people across the country, he still hasn’t found Ray. He also tried reaching out to Carnival Cruise Line but wasn’t able to get any info. He’s hoping he can find Ray and ask him why he sent the message in the first place.

“I think we live in a time where it’s easy to feel distanced from people,” Buffington said. “What was his motivation?”

If you think you know who Ray is, email us at tips@nbcphiladelphia.com or message Clint through his Facebook Page or blog.

Man Sentenced for Throwing Gas on GF as She Smoked Cigarette

A Philadelphia man was sentenced for knocking a cup of gasoline on his girlfriend as she was smoking a cigarette, causing her to burn to death inside a Bensalem motel last year.

Kevin Small, 47, pleaded guilty in the murder of his girlfriend Melissa Bacon-Smith, 46, also of Philadelphia. Small also pleaded guilty to two counts of arson, one count of risking a catastrophe, 43 counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of possessing an instrument of crime. Small was sentenced to life plus 68-136 years in prison.

On Sunday, May 15, 2016, shortly before 2:30 a.m., police and firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the Lincoln Motel, on Route 1 near Northgate Drive in Bensalem Township. When they arrived they found flames and heavy smoke inside the building. Firefighters extinguished a blaze in a first-floor motel room and later found Bacon-Smith's body inside. Investigators say she had suffered severe burns.

A desk clerk at the motel told investigators that before police and firefighters arrived, she entered room 103 after receiving a report of a person on fire. When she opened the door she noticed a person on the bed who was on fire and yelling. She was unable to get inside the room however due to the flames and left to help evacuate the entire motel. The clerk told investigators flames inside the room had spread to the curtain, bed and in front of the television.

Police say motel records indicated room 103 was registered to Small who was later found walking on Southampton and Byberry roads by Bensalem Township Police. Investigators say he had visible burns on his hands and smelled like gasoline. He was taken to Aria Hospital for treatment.

Officials say they interviewed Small as well as his sister and mother. Small's sister told officials her brother had called her around 2:35 a.m. overnight and told her that he got in a fight with his girlfriend Bacon-Smith and set her on fire as a result. Small's mother also told police that her son called her around 2:30 a.m. and confessed to throwing gasoline on Bacon-Smith's face. Small told his mother that Bacon-Smith, "looked like Freddy Kruger."

Investigators later obtained surveillance video of Small at a nearby Wawa store. The video shows Small walking into the store shortly before 1:30 a.m. on May 15. He then exits the store with a Wawa coffee cup in his hand, walks to a gas pump and then fills the cup with gasoline. The video then shows Small reentering the Wawa and getting a second cup and a pack of matches.

Officials also obtained more surveillance video of Small entering the Lincoln Motel on May 15 at 1:36 a.m. with an item in his hand.

During his interview with investigators, Small told police he was "angry" with Bacon-Smith before he left their motel room and went to the Wawa. Small said Bacon-Smith "laughed" at him when he returned to their room and he placed the cup of gasoline on top of a television. Small told investigators he then swung his arm and struck the cup, causing gasoline to fly towards Bacon-Smith as she smoked a cigarette. Small then told investigators the gasoline struck Bacon-Smith's face and she caught on fire.

Small said Bacon-Smith then grabbed his arm and said, "Kevin." He then pulled away from her and left her inside the room as the flames continued to spread.

After Small's arrest last year he told reporters, "I'm sorry," and admitted that he, "lost it" as he was led away in handcuffs. Small told NBC10's Lauren Mayk he "hurt someone he loved" and when asked whether or not he should go to jail, replied by saying, "Oh yeah, definitely."

Police arrested a day care worker who they say was caught on camera shoving a young girl down the stairs.

Sarah Gable, 52, of Folcroft, Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with simple assault, harassment, and endangering the welfare of a child. She will also likely be charged with reckless endangerment.

Gable worked at the Child Care of the Future on the 700 block of Secane Avenue in Primos, Pennsylvania. On Friday around 5:15 p.m. Gable was caught on surveillance video pushing a 4-year-old girl down the stairs, according to investigators.

"Apparently for no reason she takes this child and just throws her down a set of steps," said Upper Darby Police superintendent Michael Chitwood.

Police say workers at the day care had just installed a surveillance camera about a half hour before the incident took place. The workers immediately confronted Gable and called police, investigators said.

The 4-year-old girl suffered a minor knee injury and is expected to make a full recovery. Gable was fired from the day care and arrested. She is currently out on bail.
