Police are searching for a man who they say chased after two teen girls while naked in Evesham Township, New Jersey.

Investigators say a 15-year-old girl and 14-year-old girl were walking to a basketball court on Westerly Drive Friday shortly before 1 p.m. when they noticed a black Jeep drive by them. They then noticed that the driver, an unidentified man, did not have a shirt on.

A few minutes later the man stopped his vehicle and got out. The girls told police the man was fully naked and ran towards them. The girls ran home and the naked man got back into his vehicle and drove toward Ravens Row, police said. The girls told investigators the man didn’t say anything to them during the incident.

The suspect is described as a clean shaven, heavyset white male in his late 30s to early 40s with a faded style haircut. Investigators say he was driving a black “Cherokee style” jeep with no tire and white decal on the right side of the window.

If you have any information on the incident, please call Evesham Township Police at 856-983-1116, the confidential tip line at 856-983-4699 or email Facebook@Eveshampd.org.

Funeral Service for Realtor Who Police Say Was Killed by Ex

Funeral arrangements have been made for a local realtor who police say was gunned down by his ex-girlfriend as the two drove through a Northwest Philadelphia neighborhood.

A funeral service will be held for Terrell L. Bruce, 33, on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Saint Raymond of Penafort Church on 1350 East Vernon Road in Philadelphia. The viewing will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. while the service will commence at 10 a.m. sharp.

Bruce was shot in the head Tuesday afternoon as he drove along Park Line drive in the city's West Mt. Airy section, police said.

In the passenger seat, police said, was his former girlfriend, 27-year-old Martina Westcott, who allegedly pulled the trigger.

Bruce lost control of his dark-colored Ford Expedition after being shot. The sport utility vehicle crashed into another car and flipped onto its side. He was found a few feet from the truck.

Witnesses told police they saw a woman running away from the crash scene. Officers carried out a search of the adjacent woods and Wissahickon Creek a short time after the shooting. They found a white jacket, stained with blood, but came up empty on a suspect.

Westcott, a Central High and University of Pennsylvania grad who recently pursued a master's in public health at Thomas Jefferson University, apparently ran to her mother's house in nearby Roxborough and confessed to the shooting, police sources said.

The mother called Philadelphia Police's 14th District and helped her daughter turn herself in. She was then questioned by homicide detectives and charged with murder.

Crime scene investigators found a small caliber handgun near the crash scene on Wednesday. NBC10 was there as they took the gun into evidence. Police sources believe it was the gun used in the killing.

Bruce was a real estate agent with RE/MAX in Marlton, New Jersey. Family members described him as a "selfless, hard worker, widely known for putting the interests of others ahead of his own" in a post to a GoFundMe for his funeral arrangements.

Born and raised in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, Bruce was a graduate of Roxborough High School and studied at Drexel and La Salle Universities. He continued to help out his community even after becoming a real estate agent, according to his twin brother Brandon Bruce.

"He wanted to be on the front lines of having people be able to afford their first homes," Brandon Bruce told NBC10. "He dealt with a lot of first home buyers. That's the people he saw needed probably the most guidance in terms of financial literacy. People who didn't have good credit, he would coach them. He did it pro bono."

"It wasn't about the money. It wasn't about the check. It wasn't about the business per se. It was about trying to help people."

[[408562915, C]]

Several years ago, Terrell Bruce set up a scholarship foundation in his other brother's name, Nathaniel M. Kirkland, after he died in 2009. The college fund provided eight scholarships since its inception in 2010.

Brandon Bruce told NBC10 his family has received an outpouring of support from his twin brother's friends and clients since his death.

"Just having people who have never met me, who wouldn't know me if I walked down the street tomorrow, just kind of reach out to me, direct messages and emails and through the GoFundMe page, share their stories and experiences of how nice he's been," Brandon Bruce said. "It's very moving and I appreciate it on behalf of the family. I'd like to see his legacy live on well beyond his years and mine."

[[408544945, C]]

A judge arraigned Westcott Wednesday night and had her held without bail. It's not clear if she has retained an attorney.

"I don't know what her connection was," Brandon Bruce said. "I think they may have dated in the past but it's a situation where somebody didn't want to let you move on."

"I hope she gets the stiffest penalty that's allowable under the law."

While Brandon Bruce is hoping that justice is served, he also told NBC10 he doesn't want his brother to be remembered for the way he died but rather for the way he lived.

"I don't want the last impression of my brother to be this tragedy," he said. "I want it to be what he stood for and what he was about. Helping people, service and keeping that indomitable Philadelphia spirit and always doing your best and trying hard."

Pa. Native Injured in Istanbul Nightclub Shooting

A Delaware business owner originally from Delaware County, was one of the nearly 70 people injured in a deadly nightclub shooting in Istanbul during a New Year’s Eve celebration, according to his brother and confirmed by the State Department.

William Jacob Raak, a small business owner from Greenville, Delaware, and originally from Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, was visiting Istanbul with his friends, his brother told NBC Philadelphia.

He was one of the estimated 600 people celebrating New Year’s at the popular Reina nightclub around 1:15 a.m. Sunday when a man armed with a long-barreled weapon shot and killed a civilian and policeman, then entered the club and opened fire.

The attacker killed at least 39 people and injured nearly 70 others, including Raak. Raak is the only U.S. citizen confirmed to be injured in the shooting so far, according to the State Department.

"I was shot in the f****** leg man," Raak said while being carted off into an ambulance in a video obtained by NBC News. "These crazy people came in shooting everything!"

Raak’s brother, Michael Raak, who lives in South Philadelphia, told NBC10 William had just celebrated his 35th birthday in Istanbul four days prior to the shooting. Michael received a phone call from his brother around 7:30 p.m. ET on New Year’s Eve after the attack took place.

“We were setting up for New Year’s and then I got the phone call,” Michael said.

While Raak was shot in the leg, Michael told NBC10 his brother’s cellphone likely saved him from a more serious injury.

“When he got shot the bullet hit his phone,” Michael told NBC10. “It went from his hip to his knee but the bullet didn’t hit any major arteries.”

Michael told NBC10 his brother was treated at the hospital and is expected to be discharged within the next 24 hours before flying back to Philly.

“Everyone’s just happy he’s alive and getting home pretty quickly,” Michael said.

Raak’s friend, who is from Dubai, was also shot in the shoulder during the attack but is expected to recover.

Turkish police continue to search for the gunman.

Freezing Rain to Hit Parts of Region Monday

$
0
0

A high pressure system to the north, made for a beautiful New Year’s Day with mostly clear skies and high temperatures 7-10 degrees above normal. The official high at Philly International was 51° and the norm is 41°.

Looking ahead, a low pressure system to the south develops and moves in overnight- after 3 a.m. Monday and brings us widespread precipitation. The associated front is a warm front, and it will lift northward as the low develops.

The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory for Monday morning for New Jersey (except Cape May County) through Philly, Montgomery, Chester, Delaware, and Bucks Counties, starting at 4 a.m. until 8 a.m.

Due to the potential for early partially clear skies and minimal wind leading to significant radiational cooling away from the coastline, there will be areas to the north and west where temperatures will fall near the freezing mark, but as models indicate, this seems to be more precautionary for the metro and areas south and east.

Be on the lookout for untreated surface areas in the early morning hours, but I don't see this being an issue after 9 a.m. Locations near the water will benefit from a slight onshore flow which will gradually be shifting around to the southeast, bringing slightly warmer temperatures in from the ocean. This would explain why Cape May County is not under the Advisory.

The RAP model has cooler solution for the freezing rain, while the RDPS and HRRR have temperatures warmer across the region. Either way, we’re issuing a First Alert, focusing on the early morning commute.

Apart from that, the next story is the widespread rain, which could bring us .5" to just over 1" rain totals by Tuesday. Then we track a cool down, a major cool down for the rest of the week. I'm still keeping Wednesday at 50° and watching the reinforcing cold front that will sweep through by Wednesday. As the Polar Jet dips down, temperatures will be at or below freezing by the end of the week into the weekend.

Montco Schools Cancel Classes After Teacher's Death

A Montgomery County private school canceled classes Monday as the community mourned the body of a teacher was found at a cemetery.

The Academy of the New Church Secondary Schools in Bryn Athyn announced the death of physical education teacher Marah Boyesen on Facebook midday Monday:

"Sadly we have received notification that the remains of our friend and colleague, Marah Boyesen, have been found. We have notified the students and parents and are canceling the rest of the school day."

Bryn Athyn Police searched Sunday night for the missing educator, said Police Chief Glenn Coffin. A person walking in Bryn Athyn Cemetery found Boyesen's body Monday morning, said police.

Investigators opened a death scene investigation Monday. They didn't suspect foul play and said it appeared to be suicide, said Coffin. The Montgomery County Coroner's Office would issue an official ruling on a cause of death, he said.

The school didn’t reveal details about Boyesen’s death in its post attributed to Girl’s School principal Kira Schadegg and Boy’s School principal Jeremy Irwin, instead focusing on the community.

"At a time like this, the instinct is to reach out and ask, 'What can I do?' The answer right now is to provide the family with some space," said the post. "Over the coming hours and days, opportunities to provide support will be made available.

"Please hold each other gently over the next several days."

The school suggested anyone with questions or "concerns about anyone’s welfare" to reach out to administration.

The New Church is a Christian-faith group formed by 18th Century Swedish theologian and scientist Emanuel Swedenborg, said ANC's website. The Boy's School was formed in 1881 with the girl's school opening in 1884.
