A fiery car accident on Grant Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia left one dead and two injured Saturday.

A green Acura, with only the driver inside, hit a PECO utility pole before bursting into flames while the other vehicle, a gray Infiniti, spun out and came to a stop in the middle of the roadway.

The driver of the Acura was burned in the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Infiniti, a 30-year-old man, and his passenger, a 22-year-old woman, were taken to Aria Torresdale and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The accident was witnessed by a driver waiting on Bustleton Avenue at the red light on Bustleton and Grant avenues at 2:03 a.m.

The driver said both cars were speeding side by side westbound on Grant Avenue.

He reported that the two cars went airborne through the intersection and crashed into each other after coming back down to the ground.

Police are unsure if either driver was under the influence but they say speed played a role in the accident. Charges are pending.
