Deliberately misspelled signs are using puns to help keep schoolkids safe in a Philadelphia suburb.

Signs reading "Dear X-ing" recently sprung up in Haverford Township. One is near the Chatham Park Elementary School on the 400 block of Allston Road.

The sign caught a lot of residents' attention with what appears to be a glaring spelling mistake -- but a township official says he combined his love of puns with his mission to keep the streets safe for kids to come up with the idea for the signs.

There are currently two of the "punny" signs in the township, but more will likely be installed.

A modified interim regional rail schedule will go into effect after Labor Day as SEPTA continues to make repairs to return its Silverliner V fleet to service.
Beginning this Tuesday, new schedules will go in effect for the following regional rail lines:

  • Media/Elwyn
  • Lansdale/Doylestown
  • Manayunk/Norristown
  • Paoli/Thorndale,
  • Trenton
  • Warminster
  • West Trenton
  • Wilmington/Newark

The changes to the schedule include the return of trains to the entire Media/Elwyn line after the completion of the Crum Creek Viaduct Replacement Project.

SEPTA will also start their Weekday Supplemental Express Bus Service Tuesday. Express buses will operate from limited Regional Rail stations between 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. CLICK HERE to view the new Interim Weekday Regional Rail schedule and the Express Bus Service.

SEPTA has been on a modified schedule since they pulled more than 100 coaches from service just before the Fourth of July weekend after defects were found in the suspension systems of its Silverliner V fleet. Inspectors had found a fractured beam on one car and fatigue cracks on almost all other Silverliner V cars. The beams are being replaced.

The agency reports $2.5 million in lost revenue in July, and it has incurred additional costs in leased equipment from Maryland and New Jersey transit services and Amtrak.

The rail system linking Philadelphia and its suburbs has seen between a 10 and 20 percent drop in ridership compared to last year. Riders experienced delayed and packed trains when the faulty cars were removed from service.

Cruise Ship Said to Sail in Hermine

The much-maligned cruise ship that was damaged in rough waters earlier this year appears to be sailing near some of the stormiest sections of Hermine Sunday evening.

Several vacationers posted videos and photos to social media showing rolling seas and steely gray skies from aboard the Anthem of the Seas on Sunday afternoon.

"Ready to get away from Hermine #seasick #stuck in cabin," Louise Hardag tweeted.

The Bermuda-bound cruise ship left Bayonne, New Jersey, on Friday and was reported a few hundred miles off the East Coast Sunday night, southeast of Cape Cod, according to ship tracking site Cruisemapper. At least one other cruise ship was also in the area.

Robert McHugh of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, posted a video of pounding waves on social media. He's traveling with dozens of family members for a wedding in Bermuda. He said a majority of his relatives were getting motion sickness.

"The seas were churning up a little bit," McHugh said in a Skype interview. "There were a lot of people who weren't feeling well."

The motion of unsettled sea was rough enough that passengers had to hold onto handrails as they navigated the ship.

"When you're walking down the hallway, the ship is lifting up and dropping down," McHugh said.

Royal Carribbean, which owns and operates the ship, said in a statement that the boat is safely sailing to Bermuda in winds of about 40 mph — the minimum wind speed threshold for a tropical storm — and was more than 140 miles from the center of the storm.

"Earlier today, our captain informed guests that we had experienced higher winds and gusts for a 2-3 hour period," the cruise liner said. "We'll continue to share weather information with our guests throughout their trip."

In an unfortunate twist of fate, passengers Deena Abbate and Steve Matyasovsky were onboard the same ship in February when it encountered a raging tempest. They received a refund and a credit towards their next trip, which happened to be this weekend's cruise during Hermine.

"I guess it is pretty funny that here we are again," Abbate said.

"We booked this a long time ago, and who knew," Matyasovsky said.

While Hermine was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm after it made landfall in Florida, forecasters expected it to strengthen as it went out to sea Sunday night, and it could turn back into a hurricane.

Sunday's storm appears to be the latest in a string of incidents involving the ship this year.

In June, an 8-year-old boy drowned while in one of the Anthem's pools, and in February, it sailed into another Atlantic storm that tossed passengers and furniture about the vessel. Passengers described that voyage as "a cruise from hell."

Officials are searching for a man accused of robbing two prostitutes inside a King of Prussia hotel while impersonating a police officer.

Investigators say two female escorts set up a meeting with a man over the phone for Saturday around 2:10 a.m. after placing an ad on an internet website. The man then arrived at their hotel room in King of Prussia a short time later and identified himself as a police officer who was part of a sting operation, officials said.

The man then allegedly took out a semiautomatic handgun from a holster that he was wearing on his belt. The belt contained a silver or gold star shaped badge, according to police.

Investigators say the man stayed in the room and interrogated the two women for 30 minutes. He then allegedly stole their money and cell phones before leaving the hotel room.

Upper Merion Township Police confirmed the man was not part of any police operation at the hotel.

The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build standing between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet with a long goatee, mustache and square-type eyeglasses. He also had multiple tattoos on his hands and was wearing a ring with a blue stone surrounded by diamonds in a flower pattern on his left ring finger, police said. He was last seen wearing a burgundy hooded sweatshirt, a black baseball cap turned backwards, black t-shirt and blue jeans. Police also believe he was driving a silver two door passenger car.
