A pharmacy tech shot and killed a shotgun-toting robber wearing a Halloween mask inside a Bucks County pharmacy Friday morning.

The masked suspect entered the Pennsbury Pharmacy on New Falls Road in Levittown, Pennsylvania around 10 a.m. armed with a shotgun as his getaway driver waited in a van outside, said Falls Township Police.

The clerk saw the would-be thief coming on surveillance video and grabbed his handgun, said police.

Police arrived within a couple of minutes before the alleged getaway driver even realized his accomplice had been gunned down, said investigators. Police said the driver's minivan was reported stolen out of New Jersey.

No word yet on if any charges could be filed. Police said that store clerks have a right to be armed if they have the proper paperwork for the firearm.

#ItsATrap: Jersey Devil-Hoarding Police Warn of DWI Checkpoints

0
0

New Jersey State Police, claiming they have the Jersey Devil in their possession, dug up a clip from “a galaxy far, far away” to warm you #ItsATrap.

State Police posted to Facebook about its plan (along with a video of Admiral Ackbar’s famous line from Stars Wars: Return of the Jedi) to set up DWI checkpoints in parts of South Jersey this weekend and they want you to know why even if they are joking about where fine money may go.

“This Saturday, June 4, 2016, the New Jersey State Police will set up sobriety checkpoints in the Maurice River Township, Cumberland County and Toms River, Ocean County areas,” wrote state police.

“Now, before some of you blow your gaskets, just think about this for a minute. We're announcing WHEN it's going to happen. We're announcing WHERE it's going to happen. If you get mad because our checkpoints disrupt your drinking and driving, well, too bad.

“The purpose of announcing the checkpoints is to hopefully deter people from getting behind the wheel after drinking. The goal of the checkpoints is to prevent drunk drivers, not make arrests.”

State police even anticipated possible anger over the fines that could be gained from checkpoints by having fun with Garden State folklore.

“What's that we hear? Ah yes, it's the conspiracy theorists banging the war drums. What? Money grab? Entrapment? Well, you got us. It's true. The fine money collected from the DWI checkpoints is used to pay for the expenses of housing, feeding, and scientific experiments performed on the Jersey Devil. Yes, that's right, we captured him 13 years ago during a DWI checkpoint in South Jersey. It's a big, State secret. Shhhh!”

The simple way to avoid being pulled over is to not drink and drive, say police.

“If you plan on drinking anywhere in this state or beyond, have a designated driver, arrange for transportation or stay where you are. It’s not worth the risk of hurting or killing yourself, a friend, a loved one, or innocent motorist.”

Bridge Construction to Slow Route 1

0
0

As construction begins to replace two bridges on Holme Avenue, lane restrictions are scheduled next week in both directions on Roosevelt Boulevard and Holme and Solly avenues.

PennDOT has warned drivers that backups will occur near the construction areas, and that additional time should be allowed when traveling nearby.

The goal of the project is to replace the two deteriorating Home Avenue bridges with a single span. The project is slated to cost $15.5 million in state funds from Pennsylvania's transportation plan, and will also install new approaches to tie into the bridge along with a new traffic signal at the Holme Avenue and Fairfield Street intersection.

Work is scheduled to start Monday and continue through June 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with restrictions on local lanes on both directions of the Boulevard between Rhawn and Strahle streets.

There will also be overnight road work Wednesday to Friday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. at these locations:

  • Wednesday, June 8th: local lanes on the Boulevard will close between Rhawn and Strahle streets. Local traffic will be detoured onto the express lanes.
  • Thursday, June 9th: Lane restrictions scheduled on westbound Holme Avenue between Fairfield and Bradford streets.
  • Friday June 10th: Lane restrictions on eastbound Solly Avenue between Bradford and Fairfield streets.

The operation is dependent on the weather.

Final Moment of Teen Killed in Hit-&-Run

As police continued to search for the hit-and-run driver who killed a teenager on Wednesday night in Philadelphia, the victim's family shared some of the victim's final moments.

Before he died, 18-year old Kevin Maldonado asked for something he had never asked for before -- his father's blessing.

"He turned around and told me, 'Daddy, give me a kiss and a blessing,'" says Maldonado's father as he spoke of their last moment together.

Surveillance cameras show Kevin getting a ride with his girlfriend's father, Gregorio Esquilin, outside of Esquilin's auto shop when a white Prius struck him. The impact threw Kevin 30 feet into the air and onto a minivan.

"I felt a hard impact. I felt the flatbed shake, I thought the driver had hit my truck," explains Esquilin, "He called me don guio, I love your daughter."

Police report the driver -- described as a heavy set woman weighing at least 250 pounds and standing around 5-feet, 11-inches with long hair, possibly a wig -- continued a few more blocks before stopping, dtiching the car and running away. Investigators found out the car was stolen from Delaware County.

"When there's an innocent life, that's not called being a snitch, said Maldonado's father. "That person needs to be removed from the streets."
