A former Philadelphia high school basketball star is accused of shooting a man during an attempted robbery.

Police say Rysheed Jordan, 21, and two other suspects arranged a meeting on Facebook to sell a cell phone to at least two people. When the victims arrived on 26th and Stewart streets around 4:20 p.m. Friday, Jordan and the other suspects tried to rob them at gunpoint, according to investigators. Police say the victims ran off and Jordan allegedly opened fire, shooting one of the victims, a 23-year-old man, in the arm. The victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was placed in stable condition.

On Wednesday around 2 a.m., Temple University Police spotted Jordan in a green Jaguar traveling northbound on Broad and Norris streets, according to officials. Investigators say the vehicle went through a red light and they attempted to pull it over. The vehicle accelerated however and then turned left onto Susquehanna Avenue and left again onto 15th Street, officials said.

Jordan then allegedly left the vehicle and fled on foot southbound on 15th Street. Police say they chased after him on foot into an alley next to the 2100 block of N. 15th Street which is a dead end. An officer then observed Jordan removing a gun from his waistband and throwing it over a fence into a yard, according to investigators. Jordan was then taken into custody.

Police say they recovered the weapon which was loaded with five live rounds and had an obliterated serial number. They have not yet found the green Jaguar that Jordan allegedly ran out of however, officials said.

Jordan is charged with violation of the uniform firearms act and other related offenses in connection to Wednesday’s incident. Police say he is expected to face charges of attempted murder, robbery and other related offenses in connection to the May 27 incident.

Jordan was a star basketball player at Robert Vaux High School in North Philadelphia. Nicknamed, “The Prince of North Philly,” he led Vaux to the 2013 Philadelphia Public League Finals and its first PIAA Class A State Championship. During his high school basketball career, he was at one point ranked as the number three best high school point guard in the country and was rated number 17 in ESPN’s top 100 list. He was also the 2012-2013 PIAA Player of the year.

Jordan then played two seasons for St. John’s University before being drafted by the NBA D-League team the Delaware 87ers. He played 11 games with the team before he was released.

A viral video of a brawl on the Wildwood boardwalk over Memorial Day Weekend has sparked a police investigation.

Police say several people, who appeared to be teenage boys, were involved in a fight on the boardwalk Friday night as crowds walked by. Near the end of a cellphone video that captured the incident, a merchant emerges with a baseball bat to stop the brawl.

“He didn’t hit nobody,” said Jorge Izaguirre, a gift shop worker who witnessed the fight. “He just wanted them to get out.”

Police say the fight was one of several on the boardwalk over the holiday weekend. So far they have no suspects and no victims have come forward.

“It hurts a lot of business,” Izaguirre said. “You know, when there’s alcohol involved, things happen.”

Officials believe underage drinking in nearby motel rooms and rented condos likely played a role and plan on cracking down.

“We’re putting additional officers on the boardwalk,” said Wildwood Police Chief Robert Regalbuto. “We’re putting additional officers, plain clothes, undercover out on streets. We’re actively going to try to be invited to your party.”

Malik Bailey, 39, was arrested in South Philadelphia on Front and McKean streets and is currently in custody, officials told NBC10.

Bailey allegedly beat a woman inside a home along Pratt Street Tuesday shortly after midnight and then raped the woman's daughter. He then fled the home while naked, according to investigators.

The girl then ran from the home and summoned a neighbor who called 911. Officers climbed onto the roof of an adjacent home to see the girl's semiconscious mother in a pool of blood on the 2nd floor of the home – she appeared to have been beaten on her head and face. Police had to use a SWAT team to enter the house and medics rushed the woman to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

Police say Bailey is known to both victims. They have not yet revealed the specific charges against him.

An off-duty officer walked in on two men burglarizing his Philadelphia home, according to investigators.

The officer, who is an 8-year veteran assigned to Philly’s 12th District, entered his home on the 3300 block of Wellington Street at 1:12 p.m. Wednesday. As he walked in he noticed his television was missing, his rear kitchen window was open and his rear kitchen door was ajar. He then heard people moving and talking in his basement.

The officer took out his weapon, approached the basement stairs and announced, “Police.” A man, later identified as Ricky Mosley, 37, then allegedly charged towards the officer with a dark metal object in his hand.  The officer told officials he fired one shot, missing Mosley. Although he wasn’t struck, Mosley still fell down the steps and crashed into the basement wall, officials said. Mosley as well as a second suspect, identified by police as Lynel Henry, 22, then ran out of the rear basement door as the officer chased after them on foot, according to investigators.

As he exited the home and ran after them outside, the officer spotted a van pull away at a high speed, police said. Mosley was later apprehended on the 3200 block of Wellington Street while Henry was captured on Brighton and Hawthorne streets by another off-duty detective, according to officials.

None of the officers were injured during the incident.

Both Mosley and Henry are charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy, flight to avoid prosecution, theft and other related offenses.

It was a bittersweet night Wednesday for 8th graders graduating from Chester Community Charter School in Delaware County. They honored a classmate who was gunned down in a deadly shooting.

Classmates and family brought posters to pay tribute to 14-year-old Zenas Nichols-Powell, known simply as "Nas." The teen's father even wore his cap and gown and accepted a certificate of completion from the school superintendent, making his son's graduation official.

On May 21, Nas and his cousin were struck by stray bullets on Pine Lane in Chester as they walked to a corner store. Nas later died at the hospital while his cousin survived. Nas' father told NBC10 he was touched by the show of support for his son.

"It was a great night," said Robert Nichols. "It felt good. It made me feel a little bit better than how I was feeling days ago. I just want to say thanks everybody and thank me for everything ya'll have done and everything ya'll have been doing. I really appreciate it."

No arrests have been made in the shooting. Chester Police continue to investigate.

Firefighter Emerges With American Flag After Memorial Day Fire

After a tragic Memorial Day, signs of hope are emerging from the rubble of a Philadelphia American Legion Post that was devastated by a massive fire.

A four-alarm fire ripped through the American Legion Post 396 building on 2369 Orthodox Street around 2:45 p.m. Monday. Members of the post told NBC10 an electrical fire started in a dumbwaiter in the back corner of the building during an annual Memorial Day banquet. More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze.

By the time crews brought the flames under control over two hours later, many of the items inside the building, which housed 98 years of military history, were destroyed. [[381606621, C]]

"It breaks your heart," said Pat Driscoll, the Commander of the American Legion Post. "It's a place where the veterans can go and they have fun and now we have nothing right now."

Driscoll, a former marine, has been a member of the post for decades.

"We have a lot of uniforms from World War II, and Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force," he said.

Yet while many of the items perished in the flames, mementos of hope began to emerge. It started with a firefighter who managed to grab two American flags in a photo that quickly spread on social media.

[[381609171, C]]

"Whether it was a flag or it was something else from inside somebody's house, you can give a little closure to someone's day," said firefighter Kevin Walter.

"It makes you proud to go to work everyday to be able to help someone out," said Walter.

As members of the post searched through the fire's aftermath, more items were found.

There was the 1918 portrait of the building's namesake, Private Boleslaw Grochowski, the first soldier from Bridgesburg to be killed in World War I.

"This is the most important thing to us," said Pat Love, a member of the post. "I hope and pray that we can get this portrait restored and hang it back up in this field of honor."

[[381609151, C]]

Demolition and firefighters also found a donated purple heart and three antique rifles.

The post isn't safe to enter but Driscoll and Love say that may change when crews start to take the building down.

"We have a memorial wall up in there that we haven't been able to look at yet," Love said.

Love told NBC10 they'll continue to search for items inside the building as long as they can.

"Not being able to pull everything out of there," he said. "That's like leaving one of our fallen comrades behind."

Fetty Wap Video Sparks Probe

A New Jersey school district has placed a principal on administrative leave while it investigates the production of a rap video about drugs and gambling that was made at his high school.

Rap star and Paterson native Fetty Wap, who dropped out of Eastside High School, returned there to shoot the video for his latest single "Wake Up," which was released last Friday.

The song is a stoner's anthem with lyrics like, "I ain't really trippin' over school / Let's get Wiz Khalifa high and / Get meditated, over medicated."

The Paterson school district said it's placed the Eastside High School principal of operations, Zatiti Moody, on administrative leave with pay as it investigates how the video was allowed to be shot there.

"As there are procedures that must be followed in securing the use of our facilities, whether all procedures were followed is in question and being investigated – and will be addressed as a personnel matter," Terry Corallo, the district's spokeswoman, wrote in an email to NBC 4 New York.

"The district does not endorse the content of this video," Corallo added,

It's not clear when the video was shot, but Corallo said it happened during non-instructional hours.

The video shows Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Maxwell, rapping near trophy cases and lockers inside the halls of the school, at times with young people whizzing by on skateboards.

It also features images of people drinking out of "40 Wap" malt liquor bottles, smoking out of makeshift apple bongs, and a stripper dancing on a pole in the classroom.

One scene shows a young boy posing as a teacher sitting at the front of the classroom with the chalkboard behind him reading things like "Let's Get Wiz Khalifa High" and "Team Kush" — a reference to a strain of marijuana.

Corallo said no students participated in the taping of the video.

The 24-year-old rapper said in a statement released by his publicist, "I went back to my old high school because I love my city. I wanted to show the students of Paterson that someone who walked those same hallways they walk everyday and sat in the same classrooms shown in the video has become successful. If I can do it, they can do it, too."

When the song was released on April 20, Fetty Wap posted an open letter on his Instagram account to go alongside it, aimed particularly at disaffected students.

In it, he writes, "I can't lie, school was never really important to me. I hated when that alarm clock went off, my moms coming in my room to wake me up. I wanted to do things my own way and school was in the way."

Fetty Wap gained mainstream recognition with his single "Trap Queen" in 2014.
