A pregnant woman is suspected of shooting another woman five times Saturday in Philadelphia, and investigators say the shooting may have been sparked by a love triangle.

Police said Saturday that the suspected shooter and the victim share a "paramour."

The 24-year-old victim was still in critical condition at Temple University Hospital Sunday morning after the shooting, which happened in a house on Willard Street near F Street in Kensington about 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

Police said the 22-year-old pregnant woman was arrested in connection with the shooting, but no formal charges had been filed early Sunday.

The suspect had also been caring for the victim's children, according to police. Both women were involved with the same man, investigators said.

Detectives said social media played a role in escalating an argument between the victim and suspect.

A 46-year-old woman died and a 46-year-old man was facing homicide charges early Sunday after police say the man deliberately set a fire in a Bucks County motel room, killing the woman.

Police said Mellissa Bacon-Smith, of Philadelphia, was found dead inside a room at the Lincoln Motel, on Route 1 near Northgate Drive in Bensalem Township, about 2:30 a.m. after firefighters extinguished a blaze in the first-floor motel room.

Kevin Small, of the 2600 block of Southampton Road in Philadelphia, was arrested a short time after the fire, police said. Small is now facing charges of homicide, arson and related offenses. He is expected to be arraigned late Sunday afternoon, police said.

Police did not say what they believe led Small to allegedly start the fire in the motel room, but investigators earlier said they were investigating the possibility that the suspect and victim were dating and a domestic dispute sparked it.

A woman was in critical condition after someone shot up a car she was in with two other women and a toddler in Philadelphia's Hunting Park neighborhood overnight.

The shooting happened in the early hours Sunday morning. Police said the victim was in a car near 13th and Butler streets with her mother, her sister and a 2-year-old child when someone fired several shots at the car, critically wounding the woman.

The car the woman was in then crashed into another vehicle, police said. Spent shell casings littered the street and sidewalk where the shooting occurred.

No other serious injuries were reported in the shooting or crash, but two men in the other car were treated at a local hospital.

Police did not say what motivated the shooting or release any details about the victim's identity.

Longtime South Jersey Staple Mr. Bill's to Reopen After Makeover

A longtime South Jersey stalwart shut down for nearly two years is slated to reopen next month after a makeover.

Mr. Bill's, a popular eatery for decades on Route 73 just before the Atlantic City Expressway in Winslow Township, has been open since the 1950s. The restaurant closed almost two years ago when its former owner retired -- but now, thanks to new owners and a face lift, a new, improved version of the restaurant is set to open in June.

John and Cheryl Ernst bought the old Mr. Bill's restaurant in April and have been keeping nearly 2,000 loyal fans of the eatery up to date on its progress via a Facebook page, "Mr. Bills of Winslow Twp."

This weekend, the Mr. Bill statue that adorns the front parking lot of the restaurant got a power wash, among other improvements chronicled on the page over the last several weeks.

Mr. Bill's has long been a staple for John Ernst, a Northeast Philadelphia native, who would stop by the restaurant with his parents for ice cream. So after retiring five years ago from his position as CEO at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, he and Cheryl decided to jump into the restaurant business.

Cheryl Ernst said she and her husband are planning a grand reopening for the restaurant for sometime in June. Though the restaurant will look like new, she promised it won't feel different.

"We will have all the wonderful goodies that Mr. Bill's is known for," she said.

A fight among teenagers at a Montgomery County carnival Saturday night escalated to a group of girls ganging up on one, sending the teen to the hospital with injuries.

The fight broke out about 10 p.m. during the Roslyn Boys & Girls Club Carnival, an annual event held at Crestmont Park, along Old Welsh Road across the street from Willow Grove Park Mall, according to Abington Police.

Police said based on a preliminary investigation, they believe two girls who knew each other got into a fight, and that a number of other girls jumped in, eventually ganging up on the victim and assaulting her.

The victim was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for abrasions and other injuries and later released, police said. All of the girls involved were under 18, according to police.

Police said they have identified some of the teenagers involved in the fight, but that detectives are still investigating and trying to determine who else was involved.

They're asking the public's help to identify others responsible for the assault. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Abington Police Detective Division at 267-536-1100 or email Det. Lisa Burton at lburton@abington.org.
