Man Calls 911 to Say He Killed His Girlfriend: A man is in police custody after making a chilling 911 call that led police to a grisly discovery inside a home in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood overnight. The 911 call came in about 2:30 a.m. Monday, when police say the man told emergency dispatchers that he had just strangled his girlfriend in a house on Rorer Street near Willard. Officers responded to the home a short time later and found a woman dead inside, police said. Four children under the age of 12 were asleep in the house at the time, but the man was nowhere to be found. Just before 5 a.m., officers found the man in Port Richmond, not far from the scene of the killing, when they pulled his car over at Cumberland and Thompson streets. Authorities said he had just exited I-95 when officers spotted him. The man's identity has not been released.

Manhunt Underway After Escaped Prisoner Spotted in NJ: A convicted killer who escaped from a New Jersey prison last week was spotted at a rest stop along the Garden State Parkway in Lacey Township overnight, and dozens of police are scouring the area to try to track him down. Arthur Buckel, 38, was captured on surveillance video about 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Forked River service station in Lacey Township, Ocean County, police said. Authorities discovered the video after receiving calls from people who spotted the man, whose disappearance launched a massive manhunt last week. Lacey Township is about 50 miles northeast of Hammonton, where Buckel broke out of Bayside State Prison last week. Buckel, who is currently serving time for aggravated assault, drug possession and burglary, was discovered missing when guards did a count at the prison. He was previously convicted of manslaughter and served 14 years for killing a 10-month-old baby. Surveillance video taken from the rest stop Sunday night shows Buckel using an employee's cellphone, handing it back and then leaving.

Evacuations End as Canadian Officials Hope to Put Fire Out: Officials said Sunday they reached a turning point in fighting an enormous wildfire, hoping to get a "death grip'" on the blaze that devastated Canada's oil sands town of Fort McMurray amid cooler temperatures and light rain. Meanwhile, a massive evacuation of residents displaced by the blaze came to an end. Chad Morrison of Alberta Wildfire told a news conference he's "very happy" and called it great firefighting weather. "We can really get in there and really get a handle on this fire and really get a death grip on it," said Morrison, who answered yes when asked if they've reached a turning point. With cooler temperatures in the next three or four days, he said firefighters should be able to put out hot spots. And it has allowed them to further protect fire-ravaged Fort McMurray.

Hitler Sculpture Fetches $17M at Auction: The highly anticipated art auction season arrived Sunday with a specially curated sale that included a sculpture of a kneeling Hitler by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, which fetched a record price for the artist, and a ball suspended in a water tank by Jeff Koons. Christie's "Bound to Fail" themed sale kicked off the weeklong New York auctions of modern, post-war and contemporary art at Christie's and Sotheby’s. "Him," Cattelan's controversial sculpture of Hitler, appears as a small child kneeling in prayer when approached from the rear. But from the front, the viewer comes face-to-face with the unmistakable likeness of Hitler. It sold for a record $17.2 million. The previous auction record for a work by Cattelan was $7.9 million.

Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, Nyquist ran 1 ¼ miles in 2:01.31. The 3-year-old colt became the eighth unbeaten winner in the race's 142-year history, and the first since Big Brown in 2008.
